The 33-year-old Anfield hero will depart at the end of the season after a glittering nine years in which he has cemented his legendary status at the club, with two Premier Leagus and two Champions Leagues among the trophies win.
Those will be big shoes to fill and Liverpool are scouring the market for someone to be able to do so.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg is reporting Yan Diomande is one they are looking at.
The 19-year-old winger has 13 gols for RB Leipzig this season after they picked hin up from Spanish side Leganes.
He is on the radar of other clubs with Paris Saint-Germain linked and club chiefs having met with his representatives.
Interestingly, it is less than three years since Diomande played as a trialist for Rangers B against a Monaco XI.
Alongside the likes of Findlay Curtis and Leon King, Rangers had a players listed as a trialist and it later transpired to be Diomande.
He wasn’t seen again though and he later blamed his agent at the time for spoiling his chances of a move to Ibrox.
He said: “I was scouted at an international tournament. To prepare for a professional career in Europe, I transferred to an academy in Florida.
“Two years later, I was on trial at Glasgow Rangers. It’s not true that I didn’t want to sign for them – my agent at the time demanded too much money.
“After that, I went to Olympiacos on trial, but that didn’t work out either. Eventually, I went to Spain and signed a contract with Leganes. I was alone when I went on those trials, but I’m grateful for those experiences.
“They helped me understand that I can make it through life on my own if I have to. I sometimes find it hard to grasp what has happened in the past few years.”
