  1. Nothing quite like supporting this club is there. Feels like a toxic relationship at this point

Madueke producing as good if not slightly better g/a output this year compared to last year really just highlights how bad that transfer is.

He lived up to expectations and is still just so terrible.

I can understand if you sign a player and they then perform worse than anyone expected. You tried something, it didn’t work out. But the logic is there.

But to sign someone, they do as well as they did last year in the same league and that is still so far from what the team needs is just a damning sign that we had no idea what we were trying to achieve last summer, nor where our squad was actually lacking.

There’s a chance guys and gals. It’s a slim chance, but we can fucking do it.

Random this but why are the fixtures on this site listed in GMT-1? I know there are Arsenal fans from all over but they do play in London.

  5. [I’m listening to an “emergency” podcast with James Alcott and a few content creators](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx34Jq96qJM&t=5083s), and a lot of good points were raised. They spoke about whether our squad depth was good enough (i.e could you trust someone like Madueke in big games), Arteta’s intensity vs Pep’s intensity, Arteta’s coaching and how it looks like some players have lost their identities e.g Odegaard in 23/24 vs this season, our lack of ability to take risks, how Arteta would let someone like Nwaneri go on loan when to most of us he’s a better player than Madueke, and more. It made me realise that a number of things need to change. But also, makes me wonder if Arteta will relax a lot more if we win the league vs how he and the club would react if we manage to lose the league after we lead for so long.

Either way, the fact that we’re top of the table, in the semis of the champions league, and yet most of the fanbase is bricking it instead of enjoying the moment speaks a lot about where we are as a club right now.

  6. Don’t ask me why, but somehow i’m more optimistic now compared to last week.

I have decided that I would like the investigation of the 130+ charges to conclude before the end of this season. Please.

Is it weird to feel more optimistic after the city game?

The sting is our shit run of results leading up to it. But I think we can still go all the way and win something if we build on that.

Just need Kai and Ode to stay fit, unfortunately we probably don’t see Saka this season again.

Makes it clear where we need to improve. Physically we are good, but just get outplayed by technical players. Cherki is annoying, but he looks like a fucking wizard when he plays.

As a whole, I’m glad that technical players are still shining in the league and are the way forward.

There are no players with pace and technical ability to replace Martinelli unless someone like Barcola is available. Far easier to replace Trossard with Eze at LW and a midfielder, or a versatile technical player like Ndiaye.

Imo Alvarez has been overrated for what he would cost. Especially when the talk is selling Kai for him and having no outlet up front.

I would rather just keep Nwaneri as a player to develop into that profile.

If Berta is as good at ruthless player trading as we heard, he should have no issues with selling or even loaning Gyokeres with obligation. Good-great ball striking isn’t enough when he is below the level technically and physically, and he hasn’t been clinical either.

There was noise about Kofane earlier in the month. A profile like that to compliment/rotate with Kai and ideally develop into a better player would be nice.

Based on our game with them, his hold up play was impressive. We win more games with someone like that when Kai is injured over Gyokeres.

I would say it impressed me more than what I saw of Sesko’s hold up play as well.

Odegaard is still our most important midfielder and player I would say. Love Rice, but he doesn’t contribute enough in tight spaces to partner Zubimendi.

Easiest solution is go for a Wharton profile over Tonali to partner him at the 6, or a technical 8 with Rice at the 6 (though Eze can fill that role anyway).

Zubi/Merino are enough to backup Rice, as we have seen with Merino (who is trusted to do so). It is daft to spend near Rice money for a similar but worse player.

The game has also moved beyond that brief CB at fullback meta. We need traditional fullback profiles, especially if we want one doing the Timber role. I really hope we don’t go for someone like that Madrid CB academy player for LB.

Finally, if Arteta realises the error in squad building and wants us to play like this in the future, I have few qualms with him staying/extending even in the worst case outcome. An Iraola/Alonso/Fabregas etc are not upgrades to win us titles like an Enrique.

Change for the sake of it makes no sense imo.

We also lack clutch goal scorers. Trossard dropped off and Merino will likely be out for the season.

People talk about grinding out results, yes we have done that, but we can only do that so many times through corners, set pieces,… Someone just have to step up in those big moments to maximize our chances of winning the title, and we simply don’t have anyone who can do that anymore.

We either need Saka, Havertz, Rice to step up, or get another Trossard in the next window. COYG

downvote this comment if you hate those that compare us to a random Yank’s sports team

I am very optimistic after city game. We were the better team and showed up with very high intensity. If anything, that should push us to charge the remaining games. Only 3 games left in CL and 5 in PL. I am feeling very positive that we can get atleast 7 wins from those 8 and get two trophies in the end and suddenly season looks completely different.

  12. One-Inflation-4117 on

Don’t care if #he was a good player or not I’d never wish him near this club again

  13. If that idiot with that bottle doesn’t motivate or fuel up players I really don’t know what actually does. I thought the previous summer strengthened our squad but not getting rid of Martinelli/Trossard was a huge error. Martinelli has been useless in the PL and Trossard fell off a cliff second half of the season.

  14. EdisonTheTurtle on

Its gonna get overlooked because calling us bottlers is funny, but the period from the league cup final till the sporting game, Havertz was our only fit attacking midfielder and our options at RW were Madueke and a 16 year old. Not many, if any, clubs can cope with this level of player absenteeism

  15. A huge shine of this team that was probably the only few positive factors last season was Nwaneri and MLS – both of whom have been shunned out. I know MLS hasn’t been brilliant given the few opportunities he’s had but he’s young. Pep took a chance on O Reilly and even Nunes who he publicly said should do better and look at them now. Arteta’s management of those two players has been atrocious considering Nwaneri plays better than Madueke at RW. There is NOTHING Madueke contributes and him stepping in for Saka & flopping is evidence of it.

  16. Just realised that Villa will most likely be in a European Final, so they will throw the towel in their game vs City ..

  17. FriendlyActuary1955 on

We still have hope, but anyone who claims to believe that the team that’s gone W4 D5 L1 in its last ten domestic games has a better chance than the team that’s gone W8 D2 L0 is just being contrarian.

  18. One-Inflation-4117 on

Cala not being fit has really screwed us, Hincapie is solid enough but you could see the difference in our play in the Carabao Cup final when Cala came on. He offers technical quality in midfield that we’re sorely missing.

  19. We should get a bully forward like Thiago from Brentford. Competing with Haaland for golden boot and is only 24. His current market value is 50 mil but his contract runs until 2031 so he probably won’t be sold for less than at least 75-80 mil

  20. Some of this fanbase get onto attackers for defensive mistakes, far more than they do for attackers that have missed chances in crucial moments for years lol

  21. FriendlyActuary1955 on

The fact that everyone roots for City against all the big clubs just shows nobody really cares about them. It’s the same reason you can still get tickets for their Wembley semi-final for £40 on reseller sites, or watch either of their next two crucial home games in the the league run in for £70 when any other of the big six would be 3x that price at least. English football is being dominated by an evil NPC.

  22. Just seen online Newcastle fans claiming a Schar red card was similar to Gabriel and its only because Haaland didnt go down that he didnt get a red card. But when you watch it Schar did almost exactly the same as Schar so its Gabriel not going down that saved Haaland a red card, yet everyone is painting Gabriel as the baddie and Haaland as the hero. Next time Gabi need to drop to the floor and get the troll sent off.

  23. Knew at the time it was definitely bad for us that city went out to Real Madrid and avoided 2 midweek games against Bayern Munich. Shouldn’t have let ourselves get into this position anyway but alarm bells were going off in my head when that happened.
