Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow is surprisingly subject to transfer interest from relegation-threatened Spurs, with his contract up this summer.

With eight points being the gap between Leeds and the relegation zone, there’s a lot of confidence that United will be a Premier League team come the summer.

Therefore, that lends itself to speculation about transfer plans both in and out of the club, with contract decisions looming.

Spurs interested in signing Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow for free

In terms of outgoings, the goalkeeper department is set for a significant shift this summer. Of the four senior ‘keepers, only Lucas Perri isn’t out of contract.

Illan Meslier, Alex Cairns, and importantly Karl Darlow are all out of contract at the end of June. Unsurprisingly, Darlow’s form for club and country makes him a potential target.

Interestingly, The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reports that Spurs are eyeing the 35-year-old on a free transfer this summer.

Darlow would be viewed as a shrewd signing to help boost Spurs’ homegrown quota, while adding valuable experience in the same way he has at Elland Road.

Leeds United cannot allow Karl Darlow to leave for free after stunning Wolves save

It’s becoming a regular occurrence now. Darlow plays in the Premier League, and we come away from the game thinking he’s added another potential ‘save of the season’ shout to his name.

Wolves didn’t offer too much until Leeds took our foot off the gas in the second half. But, when the away side asked the question of Darlow, he rose to it remarkably well.

Reported Leeds target Ladislav Krejci will have thought he’d pulled one back when his header was heading in from a corner. However, Darlow – despite being wrong-footed – clawed the header away from danger as Elland Road gasped in amazement.

It’s not a rare development to see Darlow pull off an amazing save leaving you in awe. He earned an 8/10 from the YEP’s Graham Smyth:

“Made an incredible save to stop Wolves from making it a one-goal game in the second half. Did almost everything well,” Smyth wrote.

Interest in James Trafford outlines Leeds’ review of the goalkeeper position, and therefore Darlow’s footing as a starter. However, Leeds must convince him to sign fresh terms to see out his ‘twilight’ years. Although, nothing suggests Darlow is regressing, in fact you’d argue he’s hit the best form of his career right now.

Spurs are certainly justified in wanting Darlow, given their own ‘keeper struggles. But, Leeds have a vital asset on and off the field that can be retained for very little cost, as opposed to being forced to replace him.
