After beating Burnley 4-1 on Sunday, Nottingham Forest moved five points clear of the relegation zone.

With Tottenham Hotspur continuing to falter, and West Ham behind Forest, even if they win at Crystal Palace on Monday, the Reds will control their own destiny.

Having secured their place in a European semi-final for the first time since 1984, and given themself breathing space in the battle for survival, it would be all too easy to get carried away.

Unbeaten in seven games, Vitor Pereira’s side look to be on a positive trajectory, but the Portuguese Head Coach has insisted that over-confidence could be a fatal mistake.

In the wake of his side’s comeback win over Burnley, Pereira insisted that Forest must adopt a “fighter mentality” until the end of the season.

“If we start to think ‘okay, today we got three points, that is enough’, this is a big mistake,” he warned.

“We need to keep the mentality to get points everywhere. I believe that this season, to not get relegated, we need more points than in past seasons.

“That’s why we need to keep our spirit and a fighter mentality to compete until the last minute of the last game.”

After an emphatic comeback win against the Clarets on Sunday, Forest will have no time to get overly comfortable, with an unrelenting schedule offering them minimal rest until the end of the season.

Including Friday’s trip to the north east to take on Sunderland, Forest face the prospect of both Europa League semi-final legs against Aston Villa and two crucial Premier League ties in just a two-week period.

Pereira will have to utilise the full extent of his squad, the talents of which he has lauded in recent days, but as injury doubts ramp up once more, focus is the last thing Forest can lose.
