Liverpool’s recent dealings with the agent of Adam Wharton suggest that a summer move is indeed in the offing.
That’s according to journalist David Lynch, who believes that the Reds may well be looking to sign the Crystal Palace midfielder.
Pointing to a somewhat strange deal to sign youngster Will Wright last year, Lynch has claimed that Wharton arriving at Anfield is very likely to be on the agenda.

Talk of Wharton joining Liverpool in an £80m deal has ramped up in recent days, with the Reds likely to be looking for a new midfielder this summer.
Speaking to Anfield Index, Lynch says that while he has no direct information that the 22-year-old will be arriving, an out-of-the-blue move for Wright in 2025 could provide an overlooked clue.
“We’ve spoken about it for a while, interest from Liverpool, 100 per cent, and that’s going back to the Blackburn days,” he said. “I personally don’t have any information that they’re definitely going to go for him, but it just wouldn’t be a surprise at all. I’ve known of the interest for a long time.
“One little interesting titbit about this, which I think went under the radar, I just thought it was interesting that Liverpool signed Will Wright last summer. It just seemed very out of nowhere.”

“Arsenal were kind of in there and there was competing interest, and they got him over the line. He has the same agent as Adam Wharton, and sometimes with those deals you just think is that a little bit of a precursor to another deal being done further down the line?
“Maybe I’m discrediting Will Wright in a way there, I’m not trying to do that,” Lynch continued. “But I’m just suggesting that sometimes clubs like to work with certain agents, and Liverpool being able to beat Arsenal to that one bodes fairly well for them in terms of Wharton.
“If they do want him, it seems to be very much on the cards for this summer.”

Though some supporters may be slightly sceptical about Lynch’s claims – football clubs deal with agents all the time, all of whom have many clients – a closer look suggests there may be something to this.
Wharton is represented by OmniSports, who appear to largely have clients within the lower leagues in England.

The Palace midfielder is, by some stretch, the company’s biggest name, and with Wright also on the books, the link certainly is there.
Nevertheless, as Lynch alludes to, the 18-year-old is a good talent in his own right, and there is nothing to suggest that Liverpool bought him as some kind of makeweight.
Wright has been in good form recently and could be knocking on the first-team as Arne Slot deals with the absence of Hugo Ekitike.
But, regardless of what did or did not happen with the signing from Salford City, it sounds like Wharton will be one to watch ahead of a potential big-money move this summer.
