Ajax and Schalke are competing to sign Rangers defensive midfielder Bailey Rice this summer on a free transfer, with the 19-year-old Scotland youth international out of contract in June and yet to agree fresh terms at Ibrox. But why is one of the club's brightest prospects being allowed to walk away for nothing?

The reporting comes from Fabrizio Romano, who revealed on Monday that Schalke have already tabled an opening offer on personal terms while Ajax are weighing up a move of their own. Rice, according to Romano, has not yet agreed a new deal with Rangers and is open to leaving Scotland when his contract expires on 30 June.

He hasn’t shown anything to be included over our current midfielders. All for youth getting promoted but they need to add to the team.

Had his time with us but just never got a break. Best of luck to the lad.
