‘Special relationship’ didn’t seem to come into play when Madrid were sniffing around

  2. I know he been really bad this season but I still believe in him and I’m glad he finally signed

  3. Good, at times he’s been as bad as anyone on this team, but overall he’s still a very good player and we should avoid losing players like him, especially on a free.

He’s been dodgy this season, but lets be fair, so has pretty much everybody, and he’s still had games where he’s showed his true quality. Hopefully if we can get a senior CB to compete with him for minutes, it will do him good.

    He’s played like a bulkier version of Djimi Traore this season… 300k a week… Fuck me…
Let’s hope he kicks on now that things have been sorted.

  6. I guess this means we’re not gonna buy a CB in the summer because even if Gomez leaves we would still have 4 CBs and this club don’t usually buy players if the quantity is there regardless of the quality.

Nice, now get him some proper competition so he doesn’t have to play twice a week, every week.

A well-rested Ibou is one of the best CBs in Europe.

  8. “Real Madrid and PSG didn’t want me so I settled for tons of money off Liverpool”.

That said, we need him so..

    IBOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

If he sign new contract, we got 5 option for CB (VVD, konate, leonni, gomez and the new guy from lille, forgot his name) so I think at least for next season the CB position is sorted, and can focus in other position, mainly RW obviously and another RB who can stay healthy, and pls a great DM

  10. We need Ibou, one less player to replace in what will be a tricky summer window with most of our targets at the WC

Its gonna be parity with what gravenberch got. Entirely unjustified based on this year. Hughes is just spunking away money huh

  12. Don’t think he should be our starting 2nd choice but happy enough that he stays, him and VVD have both looked crap many times this season, mainly due to setup.

  13. That’s good news but you can’t help but think he only doing it because Real Madrid’s not interested anymore

You can read this as he likes us and the terms are good or that his market dried up considerably and we’re doing another Gakpo/Gravenberch here.

  15. id love ibou to stay but what happened with madrid interest? they certainly need a cb and werent they gonna sign him with higher wages and huge sign on fee to his agents too?

  16. A CB of his age profile and quality in the market would cost so much so tying him down is a really good move.

He‘s had a horrible season but for reasons that are understandable. We all know how good of a CB he can be, extending him is the smart move.

  18. Why are people assuming he’s on 300k, the same as Gravenberch (who also shouldn’t be anywhere near that figure)? I think it’s good we extended Konaté (as we need bodies at CB) but I really don’t think he’s worth anywhere near 300k.

Let’s not kid ourselves, if his performances this year weren’t absolutely abject at times then he’d be going straight to Madrid or PSG on a free.

I think the turning point for Ibou here was when he returned from compassionate leave for his dad passing.

On his return game the support from the fans in the stadium and the squad was immense. He scored that game and was very emotional.

A club that let’s you take leave and take all the time you need then welcomes you back chanting your name, that’s sort of thing is priceless.

He’s been great since his father passed which shows there must have been so much weighing on his mind before and reminds us to remember these players are humans

Just gives us one less thing to do in the summer too which is massive

Really happy he’s staying when he’s on it he’s brilliant

He’s blown hot and cold this season but tbf he’s been required to cover massive gaps while playing with a revolving door of five different RBs. He’s still a top defender and I’ll be glad if he stays.

  22. How he treats the players around him you can see there’s a real bond there. How he was getting the lads infront of the fans yesterday you could see.

On the pitch he’s a very talented cb. Hes made mistakes sure, but every player does. He’s been playing without a dm this year and been exposed. VVD hasn’t been the best cb in the world this year, which is basically his standard so that’s not helped him either.

Lad also lost his dad in his early 20s. Most people take longer when their dog dies to deal with it and get back to work. He came back almost instantly on his own decision.

    Love the man myself.

  23. It’s not been his best season, but that applies to every squad player besides Szoboszlai.

He is still an incredible player and showed full commitment (even after the unfortunate passing of his father a few weeks back). A character like him is hard to replace and, on his day, is one of the best defenders in the league.

I’d rather Ibou extend and the money be used on a winger or defensive midfielder rather than a new centre back.

  24. Happy with this but he has had a very poor season. Obviously there’s been mitigation circumstances so I hope he can kick on and lead.

  25. Some good news. I feel we’ve seen enough of how could he can be to know this season is likely a blip rather than a trend. A good age and playing alongside one of the best there is stands him in good stead.

  26. I love Ibou but I think we need more quality at centre back if we are going to properly compete again.

  27. Great to sign him up longer term. I have a feeling he went to market and didn’t get the love he expected

  28. At times he’s been very poor this season but it’s been our entire defense that’s been bad as well. VVD hasn’t been himself this season either and konate has to cover for the makeshift RBs we’ve had this season. I’m happy he’ll stay

  29. Great news. I just hope the contract isn’t as big as we were told he wanted a few months ago.

Thank him for his service and move him on. I dont think you lot realise how calamitous he has been this season, he is the weak link in the defence. If Virgil isnt holding his hand he cant be trusted to lead the defence alone. 200k a week plus is an Edwards and Hughes disasterclass.
