Manchester United transfer chiefs will be smug about their decision to sign Ayden Heaven for just £1 million last season.
In early 2025, Manchester United struck a £1 million deal for Ayden Heaven, signing the young defender from Arsenal.
This week, Michael Carrick hailed Heaven as the ‘future’ of United’s defence, and he proved why in the 1-0 win over Chelsea.
Ayden Heaven was United’s only natural centre-back in a defence that kept a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge.

After the full-time whistle at Stamford Bridge, United legend Rio Ferdinand took to social media to pile praise on Heaven.
On X, Ferdinand wrote: “The recruitment has taken a battering at Manchester United over the last 10 years and rightly so…. But we need to shout out… Ayden Heaven – £1m
“Still lots to learn but called upon once again & delivered!”
The £1m bargain for Heaven has turned into one of Ineos’ biggest success stories at the club, and it marks a serious shift in transfer strategy from the years under Glazer ownership.

Sporting director Jason Wilcox has led United’s push towards signing wonderkids in the transfer market, and Heaven is easily his biggest success so far.
Wilcox led the Heaven deal, and already the 19-year-old defender has inflated his transfer value enormously by proving he is ready to compete in the Premier League.

Impressively, Wilcox’s prediction for Heaven is coming true at an incredible pace, with the young defender already a first-team regular.
Ineos and Wilcox have saved the club from having to spend big on a centre-back in the next few windows as the likes of Heaven, Yoro and even academy star Godwill Kukonki look as though they could become starters in the years to come.
