Manchester City vs Arsenal: Premier League preview
After City’s 32nd fixture of 2023-24, Pep Guardiola’s team were in third place in the Premier League table behind Liverpool and leaders Arsenal. They were one point behind with a game in hand, and they went on to win the league by two points.
Arsenal gave themselves a midweek boost by securing a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the second season in a row but a four-match winning run in the league came crashing down against Bournemouth last weekend.
City have had the edge in their meetings with Arsenal so far this season. They drew 1-1 at the Emirates Stadium in the league in September and rode a pair of Nico O’Reilly goals all the way to a 2-0 win in the Carabao Cup final last month.
The Gunners are winless in 11 visits to Man City, including their away Premier League fixture in each of the last 10 seasons. The last time they won at the Etihad Stadium, Santi Cazorla got a goal and an assist.
The good news for Arsenal is that their last two visits have been draws. In the circumstances, a third draw would be a very handy result for Mikel Arteta’s men.
City will be better rested having already been knocked out of the Champions League and have lost a single Premier League fixture since the end of November. Getting beaten at Old Trafford might have gone down badly but it was a blip.
Guardiola has overseen just one home defeat in the league in 2025-26. It was all the way back in August in their very first home game of the season, and it was against Tottenham Hotspur.
It might be best not to read too much into that.
