Bryan Mbeumo handed Michael Carrick a Manchester United injury scare after limping off against Chelsea. The 26-year-old was kept quiet at Stamford Bridge and his game ended in the 87th minute as he was replaced by Joshua Zirkzee after colliding with a Blues player.

Showcasing he was clearly in some pain, Mbeumo gingerly walked off the pitch but with his issue seeming to be an impact one, it is unlikely he will miss United’s next game against his former club Brentford in eight days.

Leny Yoro is one United player that could remain absent for that game as he actually is injured. The Frenchman was absent from the group that travelled down to London and subsequently from the matchday squad to face Chelsea, though Carrick issued a positive update on his condition.

Ahead of the game, he said: “Hopefully it’s only [a] small [issue] but he’s obviously not ready for tonight. It’s part of football, you know? We’ve got a pretty good squad, in terms of injuries really. There’s Leny, there’s Matthijs [de Ligt], who’s out for a bit longer, and there’s Patrick [Dorgu].

“It’s the two suspensions so all of a sudden there’s less options at centre-back. We can adapt and we can make the most of it. It’s an important game tonight, so we’ll get ready for that.”

Yoro’s absence saw Diogo Dalot come into the team with Noussair Mazraoui moving to centre-back alongside Ayden Heaven. The makeshift United defence were highly impressive against Chelsea with a clean sheet and goal from Matheus Cunha taking them to within six points of securing Champions League football.

Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire were the others missing with the latter handed an extra one-game ban for comments made to the fourth official after his sending off against Bournemouth.

Martinez meanwhile, will miss three games after pulling the hair of Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the defeat to Leeds United with it was deemed to be violent conduct.

The Argentine will also be unavailable for the visits of Brentford and Liverpool to Old Trafford, but Maguire will definitely be back and Carrick will hope to also have Yoro fit enough to feature.

Dorgu and De Ligt are seemingly in a race against time to play again this season having missed extended periods due to injury with the latter having not played since late November.

During the 3-2 win away at Arsenal back in January, Dorgu pulled up clutching his hamstring and has subsequently missed the proceeding three months.
