Brentford vs Fulham preview

There are two Premier League derbies taking place this weekend and while Sunday’s showdown between Merseyside rivals Everton and Liverpool will attract more interest, Brentford’s visit from west London neighbours Fulham should provide the most excitement.

Just three points separate the pair and with both still firmly in the mix to be playing in Europe next season, each will be eager to secure an all-important three points at the Gtech Community Stadium.

That desire for points at a crucial stage of the season, coupled with the sheer amount of attacking talent in both squads, should lead to a gripping derby.

Brentford are no strangers to thrillers. Four of their last six games have produced at least four goals, although getting over the line has proved tricky of late.

They were fortunate 4-3 winners at Burnley at the end of February but haven’t tasted victory since. One constant has been their attacking output, however, as they have scored two goals in three of their last four outings.

Igor Thiago has continued to find the net at an astonishing rate – he is now just one goal behind ruthless Norwegian Erling Haaland in the Premier League scoring charts – while speedy forwards Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade provide a constant threat from the wing.

The Bees should have no trouble breaching a Fulham defence who have managed just one clean sheet in 17 games, although shutting out the Cottagers may prove difficult.

Marco Silva’s side have also seen their form dip of late and their only win in five came against Championship-bound Burnley but they can never be ruled out, especially now Harry Wilson is back fit.

Fulham were comfortable 3-1 winners in the reverse fixture so they have a mental advantage over Keith Andrews’ hosts and they should also play their part in a scintillating west London derby.

Goal machine Thiago to keep up excellent form

Sometimes the obvious bet is the best one and as long as Thiago continues to score goals, backing him to find the net at odds-against seems a solid selection.

Brentford’s brilliant Brazilian took his Premier League tally to 21 with last Saturday’s brace against Everton and he is a decent price to claim a sixth goal in five Bees appearances.

Castagne could be troubled by speedy Schade

Thiago isn’t the only Brentford forward Fulham must find answers to, though, and German international Schade may give Cottagers full-back Timothy Castagne a tough afternoon.

Despite playing a total of just 723 minutes in thoawe games, Castagne has been booked three times in his last 11 Fulham appearances and the Belgian is a big price for a card at the Gtech.

Brentford vs Fulham Bet BuilderHarry Wilson to score or assist

Fulham’s Welsh wizard has scored ten goals and provided six assists in the Premier League and should play his part in a thriller.

Alex Iwobi to have a shot on target

The Nigerian playmaker was the star of the reverse fixture, scoring one goal and setting up another, and he has managed four shots on target in his last six starts.

Igor Thiago to commit a foul

Brentford’s big Brazilian is not afraid to put himself around and has committed a foul in each of his last 13 Premier League appearances, making a total of 29 in that time.
