As one reader pointed out in the comments of yesterday’s piece on Konstantinos Mavropanos — “all the more reason to sign Disasi up.”

It’s hard to argue with that.

Mavropanos situation still unclear

The truth is, we don’t really know what’s going on with the Mavropanos links.

There have been claims and counter-claims over the past couple of days. Florian Plettenberg — the man who originally broke the news of Dinos leaving Stuttgart for West Ham — is now suggesting the defender could join Borussia Dortmund.

From the club’s side, they told Claret & Hugh that Mavropanos is on a secure contract, before later adding that the player is happy at the London Stadium.

Disasi news far more straightforward

In contrast, the situation with Axel Disasi feels a lot clearer.

It was encouraging to see The Athletic report that not only is he happy at West Ham, but he would be open to staying if the club avoid relegation. The former Monaco player is said to enjoy an ‘amazing bond’ with manager Nuno Espirito Santo and is ‘fired up’ to stay.

And that’s a big detail.

The impact has been obvious

Because since arriving from Chelsea, Disasi has transformed the back line.

Eight months without Premier League football didn’t show. He came straight in, slotted into Nuno’s system and hasn’t looked back.

In fact, it’s almost become a case of deciding which of Mavropanos or Todibo plays alongside him — that’s how important he’s been.

Priority feels obvious

If West Ham do manage to stay up, this one feels straightforward.

Disasi has to be a priority.
