Michael Carrick is hopeful Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has only suffered a “small injury”. Yoro is absent to face Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday night after picking up an injury.
Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are both unavailable due to suspensions, meaning Noussair Mazraoui looks set to partner Ayden Heaven as part of a makeshift backline at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking ahead of facing Chelsea, Carrick was asked for an update on Yoro’s injury. “Hopefully it’s a small injury for Yoro; he’s not available for today,” the United interim head coach said.

Carrick continued: “It’s part of football, you know? We’ve got a pretty good squad, in terms of injuries, really. There’s Leny, there’s Matthijs [De Ligt], who’s out for a bit longer, and there’s Patrick [Dorgu].
“It’s the two suspensions so all of a sudden there’s less options at centre-back. We can adapt and we can make the most of it.”
Heaven is making his first start for Carrick against Chelsea in the capital. Carrick had given 16 starts to different players since his arrival, but Heaven had not been handed a start until tonight.
United must respond against Chelsea after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Leeds earlier in the week.
The Reds sit in third position in the table and can put three points between themselves and Aston Villa if they win against Chelsea tonight. Villa are set to play Sunderland at home on Sunday afternoon.
