Nottingham Forest have paid tribute to a Reds fan who died in Portugal last week.

Peter Tatton passed away while in Portugal supporting the club as they faced Porto in the Europa League quarter-finals. When the teams met for the second leg of the last-eight tie at the City Ground on Thursday night, Forest paid a special tribute.

At half-time of the clash on the banks of the Trent, the Reds supporter’s picture was displayed on the big screen. The club subsequently posted a message on social media in remembrance.

Forest said: “Remembering supporter Peter Tatton, who tragically passed away following a medical episode while in Porto supporting the Reds last week. The thoughts of everybody at Nottingham Forest are with Peter’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”

Last week, Portuguese media reports suggested the alarm was raised concerning the supporter shortly after midnight following the game. There was no suggestion of any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Last Thursday’s match in Portugal finished 1-1. Vitor Pereira’s side then triumphed in the second leg, 1-0, thanks to Morgan Gibbs-White’s goal.

Their 2-1 aggregate victory means Forest are in their first European semi-final since 1984. They will come up against Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the next round of the competition, with a place in the final on the line.

It was an emotional night at the City Ground as Pereira’s side came through a tough test. The Reds showed their support for midfielder Elliot Anderson, who missed the match following the death of his mother.

After scoring what proved to be the winner, Gibbs-White held up a shirt bearing Anderson’s name and the message: “Family first. We are all with you.”
