Southampton Patriots said the group had taken the decision to halt Friday protests outside the Highfield House Hotel “with immediate effect,” adding it did not want to risk further arrests.

They claimed this was due to incoming laws. It is understood the group is referring to measures within the Crime and Policing Bill.

The proposed legislation includes tighter rules on protests near places of worship, potential offences linked to face coverings, and requirements for police to consider the cumulative impact of demonstrations.

The group said it was “going nowhere” and would outline future plans in due course, while encouraging supporters to continue holding public bodies “accountable.”

They also claimed that any protest taking place outside the hotel would not be affiliated with Southampton Patriots.
