Referee’s are hesitant to actually make calls because of the supposed safety net VAR provides, however the VAR is instructed to back on the on field referee’s decision in all but clear and obvious situations. When you think about it in this context the rationalizations they are using for both of these incidents make perfect sense. It’s a giant circle jerk.

Just completely different logic for judging one foul and the other. When we have a shout for a penalty, the standard is, ‘what is the attacker doing?’ When Bournemouth have a shout for a penalty, the standard is ‘what is the defender doing?’
It’s always about whether our guy deserves a call or not. They’re focused on what our players are doing in both situations. It’s a double standard through and through and is 100% unfair refereeing, 100% unprofessional refereeing.

I get that Harry never made an attempt to play the ball, but the contact itself was minimal. I just don’t see any difference with the Amad decision.
