I genuinely don’t get the Mamardashvili hate, I think he’s been good in general.

Not incredible, like Alisson is (but hasn’t really been this season, but who has 😂), but we are talking about him replacing one of the greatest keepers of all time!

What is it that everyone hates about him?

P.S did you see that throw in the second half, Pepe Reina vibes ❤️

  1. I definitely don’t mind him, seems a good character and he’s made some great saves at times but we’ve had such high standards set by Alisson it’s no surprise you look at them both and compare Mama a little unfavourably. I don’t love his kicking either, seems a bit rushed and aimless at times.

People had it too good for too long. Also the influx of entitled fans. Fanbase gone to shit, at least the online one.

Mama is a great keeper, hard to find a better one on the market.

  3. I probably guess the goals he conceded in big matches thus he is becoming the scapegoat in this dying trainwreck of a season to “justify” the haters.

  4. He’s a decent keeper but that’s where it ends.

You can’t go from Alisson and even Kelleher who are both well above average with their feet for goalkeepers, to Mamardashvilli who resorts to lumping it forward 90% of the time.

Absolutely hamstrung us that last night.

  5. There is nothing wrong with him. No one can replace Allison. problem is i dont see why he is any better than Kelleher.

People saying mama was bad last night are some of the most braindead people i swear.

Some fans be hating on anything and any player to justify the lose.

  7. His kicking has been poor, but so has Ali’s this season. I thought that Ali had at least been good with this hands, but then I was surprised to learn that he’s 20th in the Premier League for exp saves, so I don’t think there’s much of a drop off when Mamardashvili plays.

Everyone’s forgotten the howlers Allison use to make when he first joined.

I’m confident Mama will come good when he’s used to the team play and gets a bit more confidence. Didn’t help that Slot refused to play him until he had to

I like him, and he’s still only 25. Can still learn from Alisson and he’s got a great height to him.

Ive seen zero hate, just people thinking hes not good enough which looks a fair shout. It also stings as he doesnt look better than Kelleher

    Is he getting hate?
From a goalkeeping point of view I don’t think he’s doing much wrong, can’t remember any clangers or soft goals and he’s not really making mistakes.

From a ball distribution point of view, I think he’s perfectly average in how he boots the ball up the field where we’ve been blessed and maybe now expect the pinpoint accuracy of the passes Ali has always given us, but even he hasn’t been as good this year either that so I wonder if that’s a muddled direction coming from Slot about playing out instead of long balls.

I think he’s going to be a great goalie for us.

I know his kicking needs to be improved on but it’d be really handy if the rest of the team remember that he’s left footed sometimes.

His kicking isn’t Alisson standard but he has a higher ceiling than Kelleher in other areas and will still be worth the money we paid for him.

Should be our #1 for quite a long time.

I think he just needs confidence. A lot of times he tends to slap or punch the ball away when he could catch it, and he also tends to smash the ball up the field first time instead of taking a touch first (when he can), which is a sign of nerves. He’s a great shot stopper and he will do well, he’s just nervy (in my opinion).

  15. Has really not been his fault we have lost games/points, he is a talented goalkeeper that is getting valuable minutes now

  16. Can’t say I’ve seen any hate. If there is, it’s not deserved. He’s a very good keeper. No keeper on the world is unbeatable and so some shots will get past him.

What we need is a stronger defence to reduce the shots, a stronger midfield to support the defence and also to supply the forwards, and some stronger forwards to score more than those that get past our keeper.

And when I say ‘stronger’, I don’t necessarily mean different. We have a fantastic squad. We need a better mentality, strategy, drive and cohesiveness than we are currently seeing.

Apart from having absolutely no right foot he’s a top quality goalkeeper, still very young too, I can see why we bought him I’d be happy if he became our number one after Ali leaves.

  18. He’s done alright on the most part.
Last night, was done by a cracking strike and then abandoned by the defence for the 2nd.

If anyone wants to point blame, blame to back 4, or lack of options to rotate/drop players.

Hell be alright in the end, just not a first choice yet, another couple of seasons.

If we only get Europa, just play him there and the cups and he’ll be ready for the eventual Allison injuries through the season

Most the hate I’ve seen for Mama is on Twitter, which I don’t understand either. Alisson is just on a different level compared to other keepers, we were never going to find a like for like but Mama can improve with time.

Also doesn’t help when the players keep passing to his right foot.

  20. I don’t think Mamardashvili is a successor to Allison. He’s a decent keeper but we’re talking about replacing the best keeper in the world though so it’s going to be very tough. I would break the bank to get Kelleher back and let Allison go on his way in the summer. Undoubtedly one of the best we ever had but it’s his injury record that means we need to replace him. Not a popular opinion I know and I’m prepared to take the downvotes!

  21. TheMetabrandMan on

I know. It’s not like Alisson has been keeping clean sheet after clean sheet. We just aren’t good defensively anymore.

  22. i hate everything about the last summer window (transfer season) but least i hate is this kid.

what i did hate more was signing him, keeping allison and saying goodbye to kelleher though.

  23. ash_ninetyone on

We’ve been spoilt with having arguably the best all-round goalie in the world.

Ali’s only weak point is his availability. He’s as good at distributing the ball as he is at making saves.

That comes with very big gloves to fill. Marma is a good stopper tbh, though him being left footed means the defence will have to adapt playing back to him for his passing lanes, and he’s not at Ali levels of distribution. His kicking seems a bit weird. Hopefully that can be coached.

That said as well, if, *IF*, we were considering selling Ali or phasing him out because, let’s be frank, fair and honest, he is getting on and his availability is being called out, I’d personally have preferred to have kept Kelleher and made him first choice. Only thing is, I’m not ready for Ali to leave. Not this summer with us already having two other legends on the way out

  24. Mamar does not have any semblance of a structure infront of him or a team willing to actually put the graft in. Alisson has let in goals too with this manager.

  25. Last-Career7180 on

People ought to remember we had minoglet and karius before the bar was raised

  26. He’s a good keeper but he’s obviously a different profile to Alisson yet Slot seems to expect him to play the exact same way. He’s just another example of a player on our team not being used to their strengths and more so outline where recruitment has gone wrong.

I don’t think it was wrong to sign him, just it’s wrong if the idea was for him to slot in and just be another Alisson

  27. Kellerher did not want to stay and be number 2 everyone acting as if the club could force him to and then the same people would moan when he would leave on a free
