Arsenal’s grip on the Premier League title weakened over the weekend.

Arsenal suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, and Manchester City took full advantage by thumping Chelsea the following day.

Pep Guardiola’s side are now six points behind with a game in hand, and they still have the Gunners to play at the Etihad.

So, it’ll be a nervy run in for Arsenal, who must avoid defeat against the Citizens in what could be the title decider on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the final six games of the season, Michael Owen has sent Mikel Arteta a pretty brutal warning.

Speaking on the Premier League Productions’ The Final Word show, Owen didn’t mince his words as he said it’d be ‘unforgivable’ for Arsenal to lose the Premier League title from this position.

“Prior to the season, I was a little bit kinder on Arsenal,” the former Liverpool striker explained.

“I think a lot of fans were saying, ‘we’ll throw it away, we’ll bottle it and all the rest of it.’ I’m saying, well, come on, you know, support your team. Every other team that have ever won the Premier League, apart from Leicester in recent times, have done it the hard way.

“They’ve come fourth, they’ve come third, they’ve come second, they might come second again. You know, that’s what happens. It’s not easy.

“You never go from coming 13th to go and win the league. So I was a little bit, you know, give them a bit of space last season.

“Semi-finals of the Champions League, second in the Premier League. That’s a fair team that does that next step, okay, to win the league, but support them in terms of doing that.

“So that was my attitude before the season. And they are still top of the league. However, if they don’t win it this time, then they will have thrown it away totally, and that will be unforgivable.”

There is an ever-growing feeling around Arteta that he can’t get over the line, with the recent defeat against Man City in the League Cup final fueling that narrative.

The Spaniard must be an end to that this season, as it very much feels like it could make or break the trajectory of his Arsenal career.
