Manchester United have held exploratory talks with Aston Villa over a potential summer deal for Morgan Rogers, Sky Sport Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed.

The Old Trafford side are among several Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on Rogers ahead of the transfer window, along with his long-standing admirers Chelsea.

The England international could be on the move despite only signing a new six-year contract with Villa in November, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2031.

The West Midlands club are believed to be valuing Rogers at around £90m. A move in this range would place the 23-year-old among the club’s most lucrative sales in history.

According to Tavolieri, Rogers is ‘very open’ to a move to Old Trafford after the season, provided United qualify for the Champions League.

The England international sees continental football as a key factor in his decision and is claimed to be ‘eager’ to take on a new challenge after two-and-a-half seasons at Villa Park.

United’s interim boss Michael Carrick knows Rogers well from his time together at Championship side Middlesbrough.

The ‘superstar’ attacker played under Carrick at the Riverside Stadium during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.

In February 2024, Rogers joined Villa in a deal worth about £15m and has made 116 appearances for the West Midlands side since, registering 52 goal involvements.

Only eight Premier League players have more goal contributions than Rogers’ 13 this season, including United captain Bruno Fernandes, who has 25.

Rogers scored both of Villa’s goals in the 2-0 win over United in December, but struggled in their second meeting last month, when Carrick’s side claimed a 3-1 victory.

Could Rogers Play Alongside Bruno Fernandes?

With both among the Premier League’s standout No 10s this season, Rogers and Fernandes share several similar qualities and could find themselves competing for minutes at Old Trafford next season.

We asked ChatGPT whether the pair could play alongside each other for United and how they might complement each other’s strengths.

Different creative profiles – Fernandes thrives with passing and chance creation, while Rogers offers ball-carrying and direct running, giving United varied attacking threats.

Positional flexibility – Rogers could play from the left or as a second No.10, allowing Fernandes to remain central while both influence the game.

Physicality alongside creativity – Rogers’ strength and driving runs could balance Fernandes’ playmaking, helping United progress the ball and support transitions more effectively.
