Wolverhampton Wanderers could be relegated as early as 20 April from the Premier League following a forgettable campaign.

Rob Edwards’ side are currently bottom of the table having picked up just 17 points from 32 matches, leaving Wolves 15 points from safety with just six games to go.

Wolves can only reach a maximum of 35 points this season and that would require the Molineux men winning each of their final six matches.

They face another relegation-threatened side in Leeds United this weekend, and their result in that will determine the permutations that will confirm their fate.

If Wolves beat Leeds, they will remain in the Premier League for at least one more round of fixtures.

A draw means that if Nottingham Forest avoid defeat at home to Burnley and West Ham win at Crystal Palace, Wolves’ relegation will be confirmed on Monday night.

But a defeat for the Old Gold at Elland Road means West Ham only need a draw to confirm a return to the Championship for Rob Edwards’ side.

Wolves have already avoided becoming the earliest team to be relegated from the top-flight and also bettered the Premier League’s record lowest points tally.

Derby County hold both records after Paul Jewell’s side were relegated on 29 March 2008 – earning just 11 points in the process.
