Keane “People are looking at Arteta. No, this is on the players. The fans aren’t going to do it for you, manager can only do so much. He’s got a brilliant squad together, do not let this slip, you’re in great position. People like Rice, we’re talking about leadership, they’ve got to get a grip.”

Ima say Rice is the literal last one I’m pointing a finger at if we bottle. What a shite take.
You can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it drink. Something like that.
No its the manager and his shit tactics actually
The players didn’t all suddenly turn to shit. They’re being told to play way too conservative and never leave their proper defensive shape so they never take any risks going forward, or move off the ball etc.
“Manger can only do so much” is not the case here. I might have missed it, but I haven’t seen any attempts from the manager to try something different recently.
It’s both. Arteta needs to be more flexible. Teams know what we’re going to do before we do. Make more timely subs. Rotate more. But the players need to perform better and do their jobs.
Preach!
Everyone says Arteta is the common denominator. The core group has been here along with him.
Don’t get me started on the new guys. Especially a certain midfielder
He’s right, our players don’t look anything close to what they were in the first half of the season. Why that is the case is up for debate, but they 100% need to be held accountable for their performances
Professional contrarian.
It’s both. Arteta is making bad tactical decisions and the lineups are simply not it, however our players can string two passes together.
Can someone tell me wha happened to Troussard FFS?
“Manager can only do so much” after we witnessed City come out of half time like a changed team while our team has failed to come back in games over and over again. Even the first leg against Leverkusen was pure luck for us to get a pen.
Keane is from an old school era where managers were just that, managers. Much more was left to players to “figure out” on the field.
I’m sorry, we are in a different era of tactics, data and micromanaging.
Besides, Arteta is not a “let the players figure it out themselves” kinda guy. The problem is his managing hasn’t proven very flexible in this current run of bad form. He’s good at doing what he knows and he seems determined to try it repeatedly. We’ll see how he adjusts at the Ethiad this weekend.
I understand why people are upset, but it’s interesting to see people completely turning on the manager when we’re top of the league and winning after the first leg of the CL quarterfinal.
I called it during the Liverpool game at Anfield. He showed his true colours that night. Coward.
I do think the general fan base significantly overestimates how much control a manager has over a team’s performance. He can’t play the game for them. He’s not the one making them lose possession, letting an unmarked man score, poor crosses, shots off target, etc. That type of stuff is 100% the fault of the players on the pitch. These are professionals making fundamental mistakes.
But at the same time, a manager needs to supply the tactics to get players to outperform the opposition when something clearly isn’t working. He needs to put the right players on the pitch at the right time. A manager also needs to play a role in getting the mentality to where it needs to be (although these are mostly grown men, they need to take accountable for their mental, as well).
100% agree. Saka’s season sums it up. Zubi performed 100x better than I expected to start the season, he’s actually held our midfield together until late. Ode and Rice haven’t been good enough either
For once he actually says something with sense. Players have let him down badly the last couple games. They need to step up
Keane has a soft spot for managers. Stats don’t lie though, Arsenal have consistently collapsed in April for the past 5 years, players have come and gone Arteta is the only common denominator
It’s both but when it’s April and the whole squad looks like ass while we have their backups with barely a handful of games then it is quite literally one man’s doing
Oh god he said the thing
Keane more sensible than some fans here. Lmfao.
Nah i dont believe that, at all. Cherki said Pep lets him express humself and roam the field, theres a difference between managers and how they deal with the pressure and handle the players. From what Ive seen Im telling you there is no way our players arent under specific instructions.
I know the players were diabolical for that 2nd goal but what an earth did we do up to that point to try and dismantle Bournemouth? I dont think we set a very positive tone in the first 15-20 minutes. Theres a reason a lot of us never liked the lineup, too.
One incredibly underrated aspect of our slide is that our captain has been injured for pretty much all of it. I don’t think that’s a coincidence- when things get tough we need the resolve of a true leader like Odegaard.
