Rio Ngumoha belied his young years on Saturday as he hit a beautiful goal during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Fulham.

The 17-year-old became the youngest Anfield goal scorer in Premier League history after curling past Bernd Leno, earning well-deserved plaudits in the process.

After finding the net, the records kept coming for Ngumoha, who also put himself alongside Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas in another all-time Premier League list.

Are Liverpool in danger of blocking Rio’s pathway with a new signing this summer?

Should they make a new signing after all?

As BBC Sport report, Ngumoha became the third youngest player in the Premier League’s 34-year history to both start and score in the same game.

Rooney is the youngest, having been only 17 years and 51 days when achieving the feat for Everton, with Fabregas just 62 days older when bagging for Arsenal.

At 17 years and 225 days, Ngumoha is 112 days older than the Spaniard was, but it just goes to show how rare it is for such a young player to start and then score.

It takes some doing to be that young and to even get on the pitch at all, but to do so from the start is something extra special.

Ngumoha has already started two Premier League matches for Liverpool, and now has two goals to his name.

Though young players often fade away after bright starts in senior football, the former Chelsea starlet must use Rooney and Fabregas as inspiration: two players who started as they meant to go on and ended up making it right to the very top.

His name is now alongside theirs in the annals of the Premier League, and the best is surely yet to come.
