Police received a report at 6.10pm on Saturday, April 11, raising concern for the welfare of a woman in the water in the area of Bournemouth Pier.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “With the assistance of the RNLI Lifeguards and the coastguard, the woman was taken to safety and she is being given appropriate care.”

Witnesses reported seeing activity around the area of Boscombe Pier.

It is understood the woman was taken to Boscombe by the Coastguard.

The Coastguard was alerted to an incident at Bournemouth beach at around 6.05pm.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “Poole and Southbourne Coastguard Rescue Teams, a coastguard helicopter, RNLI lifeboats from Mudeford and Poole, South West Ambulance Service and Dorset Police were all sent.”
