  1. It doesn’t matter how good your defense is, if you are inept at attacking and your technical level is low, you will always invite pressure.

  2. MØ is one of our bravest players. At least he goes to the ball and takes responsibility, even Calafiori is willing to get on the ball and do something.

  3. mood in this sub has shifted quite a bit since this thread a few days ago [https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/1sfcydp/richards_calling_carragher_out_on_his_hypocrisy/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/1sfcydp/richards_calling_carragher_out_on_his_hypocrisy/)

i thought carragher really had a point but people were having none of it despite it being really obvious. can we now finally admit that we most likely will not win the league if we don’t change the way we play? is there anyone who still thinks that if we continue playing like this, city will beat us to the title?

i don’t think we will see a big change in performance, and i think we need one. i thought we looked really good against leverkusen at home but neither in the games before nor in the games after we looked like champions. city haven’t looked like champions for most part of the season either, but if their last two games are indicative of what their form towards the end of the season is like, i think the writing’s on the wall (unless we find another gear ourselves!)

a year ago i said this season would be make or break and i think project arteta is on the verge of collapsing – it’s still in our hands, and i really hope we can do it, but if this ends in failure, arteta should go

  4. You know what i enjoy about our games these days? The 15 min break during Half-Time. So peaceful, no stress.

  5. We shouldn’t need to galaxy brain to dominate Ryan christie and alex scott in midfield 😭

  6. Effective-Paint-7097 on

i really really hope cala is back for city. we looked more lively when he came on during the cup final and he’s always pushing forward

  7. The technical level of the squad is so poor. No player is comfortable taking the ball on the half turn and progressing it. Our attack and midfield are just not cutting it.

Martinelli can’t beat his man and never will do so consistently. Gyokeres just has the ball bouncing off him. Madueke is getting the ball and just dribbling it out or not making enough with it. Rice and Zubi cannot play on the turn. Trossard and Jesus are finished.

And to think we COULD have got Kvicha or Semenyo…..

we had a good thing going on, Arteta had to ruin it by bottling the league. now when we leave, would we have to go through a rebuild?!? dont wanna go through a rebuild. I’m overthinking here.

  9. Very_Bad_Ebening on

The pressure of winning the league is exacerbated by the fact that we havent won anything in the last six years. The carabao cup final is really the first final that this crop of players have gone through together in an arsenal shirt so high pressure games with high jeopardy is something they are finding it hard to adapt to. I wonder how they’d handle themselves if this title race was on the back of winning domestic/european cups over the years, probably a bit differently

  10. Logically city will beat chelsea, also chelsea fans are a disgrace they want city to beat them and not make cl spots. It makes no sense as a fan you should want your team to win every game.

Regardless, if arteta plays zubimendi and rice together we will lose against city. We need to change our tactics. Arteta better do something different he cant get away with trying to play for the draw. It wont work 100%. I hope these 3 losses kicks arteta in the brain and makes him stop being stubborn. If he plays rice and zubimendi in the city game i want him to quit. He is a very average manager and will never acheive a major trophey. As a world class manager you need adapt, arteta is awful and has no plan b and is very reactive instead of proactive. 🤬

Also not sure how discussed it was yesterday but Rice being captain ahead of Gabriel was weird right? Why’s he made that change so late in the season?

  12. Everything about Arteta’s game model is contradictory.

    – Wants to play risk averse football, but will happily play around in and around our own box, causing unnecessary risk

-Wants to play football on the margins without creating much from open play, doesn’t by gamebreakers in attack to alleviate that issue

  13. If Arteta doesn’t change tactics, then I think it’s time to move him on. I know we’ve had a lot of injuries this season and it’s been hard for certain lineups to gel, but it’s not enough of an excuse

If we don’t win anything, are players still going to want to come?

  14. They ask you how you are, and you just have to say that you’re fine, when you’re not really fine, but you just can’t get into it because they would never understand.

  15. So this Chelsea club are pretty good aren’t they? With world class players like Cole Palmer, they’ll surely win against whomever they’re playing against next? Right? RIGHT?

  16. Bernardo misses next weekend if he gets a yellow today. Need Caicedo to raise the temperature.

  17. wedgerman_remontada on

honestly can’t expect much from Chelsea, they’re an objectively rubbish team by most measures, i’m gonna try and enjoy the sun today, good luck folks 👍🏿

Guy next to me at the game yesterday spent over 50% of it battering the empty seat next to him

Mate, just moan on reddit like the rest of us. It’s not that deep.

Also, was way too old to be reacting to a football game like that – comfortably in his 50s

  19. It won’t happen but this is what we should do if we want to salvage the season imo

    1. Play reserves against sporting and hope we bottle and get knocked out. There is zero chance we win the CL and extra games will only hurt us in the league

    2. Park the bus against city and play havertz at midfield ahead of Rice for his physicality and duel winning. After that never play Havertz at midfield again. Pray for a draw

    3. Don’t start Zubimendi again for the rest of the season except the sporting 2nd leg. Only sub him on if we are leading by 2 or more goals

    4. Play Rice at DM for the rest of the season with Eze and Odegaard in front of him. If odegaard is unfit play Saka or Dowman there

    5. After City, use martinelli and gyokeres only as subs against fresh legs and never let them be on the pitch at the same time

  20. We’ve spent £1 billion and our best attacker is an academy product who’s already looking like he’s on the decline

Absolutely tragic financial mismanagement from the manager and the board and heads should roll

And of course this gets downvoted because people cannot handle criticism of the club

  21. NotASalamanderBoi on

Grim fucking days if we’re having to rely on Chelsea of all clubs to save us.

  22. The truth is we’ve been “getting away with it” far too many times this season.

I mean, we’ve been putting up dogshit performance after dogshit performance in the league and scraping wins. The 2-1 win over Chelsea at home was awful, they legit outplayed us with 10 men after Neto went off, we had to nick two corners and created fuck all other than that.

The Brighton Away win was a great defensive performance, sure, but it was another game in which our midfield got dominated. The result was great because City drew to Forest.

The Chelsea 1-0 Carabao SF win was the same story, we were awful offensively and couldn’t create anything until the very final minute. But we were in the lead so it’s okay.

The point is, we’ve been lucky to win so many games post November / December ish. You can count in hand the number of dominant performances we’ve had.

I don’t know what’s gonna happen in the weeks to come. But I’m sure as shit not confident. Our level will need to improve DRASTICALLY to have a chance of winning silverware.

  23. doingitfortheTea on

We really need Ødegaard back and we need to drop zubimendi.

Really sad how he’s broken mentally, but we can’t keep carrying a total passenger in that position.

Rice needs to be our 6, he’s the only one with the mental capacity to do it right now.

  24. captain_proton on

I’m still so angry. We might be missing some key players but the team yesterday shouldn’t be playing like they did.

It has to be down to nerves. We could be the most ultra defensive and risk averse team in the world and still play competently, but I didn’t see that. We looked clueless and afraid, as well as knackered and slow. We were so passive and off the mark in so many duels.

The City game is going to be an absolutely torturous watch

  25. SeaworthinessOk2615 on

I know people love to complain about our attack, but the first goal we conceded was incredibly poor. How come their LW was completely unmarked in the box? Where was White?

  26. RickRollRules on

This manager has bottled multiple league titles, various cup semi-finals, a cup final and even a Top 4 race. When the chips are down, even when everything is in our favour he doesn’t deliver.

  27. Scottish-Londoner on

If we lose the league from this position and the club still keep Arteta then we absolutely deserve multiple more second place finishes and late season capitulations.

He has repeatedly proved that he doesn’t have what it takes in the title run in.

  28. The unwillingness and lack of shame that these players and manager have to prove their haters and doubters wrong is the worst part. How are you witnessing first hand those banners by Liverpool last season, the 2nd again ole ole chants in every game by opposition fans and still not try your best to prove them wrong.

  29. Don’t be surprised if sporting lisbon have more possesion and systematically outplay us next week wednesday, I honestly think they’re gonna score first and then it’ll be a horrible game to watch from us.
