On May 3 thousands of runners are set to take on ABP’s Southampton Marathon and drivers are being warned of road closures throughout the day.

Closures begin as early as 6am on Saturday in some areas and continue through Sunday, with many main roads shut between 8am and 4pm.

Major routes impacted include the A33 -Millbrook Road West and The Avenue, A3024 – Bitterne Road West and East, A3025, and A35, alongside central roads such as Canute Road, High Street, and St Mary’s Street.

Parts of the road network will be closed eastbound or westbound between 8am and 3pm, while others – like sections near Burgess Road and Bassett Green Road – will shut for shorter windows between 8.30am and midday.

Access across the River Itchen is partly maintained. Northam Bridge will stay open all day, while the Itchen Bridge reopens from 2pm for inbound traffic.
