Hammers can secure key win in relegation battle

Reeling from the heartache of their FA Cup quarter-final exit at the hands of Leeds United a matter of days ago, West Ham must pick themselves up and dust themselves down as another match of huge significance awaits them when they face Wolves tonight.

The Hammers recovered from 2-0 down at home to Leeds on Sunday to draw 2-2 thanks to goals in the 93rd and 97th minutes, only to lose the game on penalties.

With hopes of silverware dashed for another season, the focus for West Ham is now firmly on Premier League survival.

They went into the recent international break just one point off safety thanks to Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 humbling at home to Nottingham Forest the same day that they lost 2-0 to Aston Villa.

That means victory over Wolves tonight would lift West Ham out of the relegation zone and nudge Spurs into the bottom three, at least until the north London club visit Sunderland on Sunday.

And at 5/6, there is just enough value in backing the Hammers to win this game.

West Ham will be after revenge against Wolves, having hit a new low when they lost 3-0 to the West Midlanders in their first game of 2026.

That was the first league win of the season for Wolves, who have since enjoyed a bit of a turnaround under Rob Edwards, even if they are still 1/200 to be playing Championship football next season.

Wolves have taken seven points from their past three league games but their previous match was more than three weeks ago on March 16 – and it may be harder for Edwards to motivate his group after that break, given that relegation looks inevitable.

West Ham, meanwhile, will have no such lack of incentives and they should be more up for this game than Wolves, who have not won an away game in the Premier League this season, losing 10 of their 15 matches on the road and scoring just seven times in the process.
