Newcastle United’s failure to land Jorgen Strand-Larsen could come back to haunt them this weekend, as the striker prepares to face them for Crystal Palace.

The Norwegian international was long courted by transfer chiefs at United – and watched on while at Wolves as several big money bids were rejected last summer, including a final offer of £55million.

The 26-year-old finally sealed his exit from Molineux, departing in a January deal worth £48million.

He has gone onto hit three goals in his opening 10 games for Palace, and is in with a chance of starting in the first eleven to face The Magpies at Selhurst Park.

On this week’s View from the Opposition via The Everything is Black and White Podcast, Henry Swain of Let’s Talk Palace, heaped praised on Strand-Larsen.

“Jesus, he’d be bloody brilliant for you lot,” Swain said, “He’s kind of exactly what you want as a striker at your club. He just gets it.

“He puts his body around. He’s been fantastic. The way he holds up the ball, I’ve been really impressed and more than I thought I would be.

“Obviously, he’s scored a few goals, but it’s more his kind of general build up play, and I think when we had Jean-Philippe Mateta out front last night, you kind of noticed just how good Strand Larsen is because he always traps the ball, always keeps possession, even with a man on his back.

“I’ve been blown away by him to be honest.

“Obviously, it’s an insane amount of money, especially for Palace. We don’t really spend that sort of money ever – it was a record signing, but yeah, he’s been fantastic and I think it could be one of those where it’s like the one that got away slightly.”
