The St Mary’s side, unbeaten in 16 matches with wins against Wrexham, Arsenal, Oxford United, Norwich and Coventry on the spin, are red hot.

Their 5-1 victory at Wrexham on Tuesday saw them surge back into the Championship play-off places, leapfrogging the Welsh side into sixth place.

But Larin, who has not lost in a Saints shirt, is already looking at the next test, which sees Derby, only three points behind in the table, visit St Mary’s.

“Nobody will remember what we did in these games if we don’t put out a good performance in the next game,” Larin told the Daily Echo.

“Derby is our most important game now, and we have to put out the same performance as we have done before. That is all my focus is on right now.”

Larin has played some part in every Championship and FA Cup game since signing, but has had to share over 40 per cent of minutes with Ross Stewart.

The Canadian international provides essential relief to the injury-stricken Scot, who opened the scoring against Arsenal at St Mary’s last weekend.

Both strikers scored in the win at Wrexham, with Larin restoring the crucial two-goal advantage after the break before Stewart came off the bench.

“You always have competition at the striker level. I’m just happy for the team and for Ross to score. Everything is working really well,” said Larin.

Saints retain an option to buy Larin from RCD Mallorca permanently in the summer, although the transfer fee required has not been disclosed.

But Larin, who has scored five goals in 13 games for Saints, claims he is not thinking about his future beyond this season and the home World Cup.

“Right now, I’m focused on winning games and helping the team get promoted to the Premier League,” insisted the 30 year old.

“If that happens, the rest will come. It was nice to be back with Canada and playing games, but I’m focused on here and helping Southampton.”
