The Turbines were officially relegated after their 2-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Oxford City on Easter Monday.

It’s been turbulent season which has involved two changes of management and a large churn of players, including former Premier League boss Phil Brown switching to a director of football role at his own suggestion.

This ends their four-year stay in the sixth-tier, having finished 12th last season, which was the club’s highest position in their history.

Carayol joined the Cambridgeshire outfit in September last year after his short spell at fifth-tier side Wealdstone came to an end.

The Gambian attacker had a brief spell at Portman Road back in 2018, playing just eight games in all competitions, scoring once. 

Carayol went on to have spells in Cyprus and Turkey, before returning to England in 2021.
