Manchester United haven’t made an official decision on Michael Carrick yet, but what they are doing in the Ireland training camp is a soft launch.

Arriving in an interim capacity, Michael Carrick has worked miracles with the same squad that was once written off as not good enough by Ruben Amorim.

Man Utd are nicely placed to qualify for the Champions League next season, which would be an objective achieved for Carrick.

However, Ineos are being patient with their decision, but if United’s activities in Ireland are any indication, a soft-launch is already underway.

Can you name a good available alternative to Michael Carrick you actually want?

For Carrick, even getting United to a training camp in Ireland instead of a money-spinning trip to Asia or North America was an endorsement of his abilities.

Ineos prioritised sporting success over a short-term financial boost, and what’s happened since then is extremely interesting.

Without making it official, United are leaving no stone unturned in positioning Carrick as their next permanent manager.

It started with the press conference of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad, where the latter straight-up said that he thinks Carrick is the right man.

If that was just a player speaking his mind, United went a step further on their own by putting Carrick’s backroom staff front and centre of their coverage.

First, there was an interview with Steve Holland, Carrick’s revered No. 2, and the architect of United’s defensive resilience.

He spoke about aiming as high as possible this season in a reset of Man Utd’s standards, which is hardly a short-term view of management.

It was followed by an interview with Jonny Evans, who’s receiving credit for United’s set-piece magic, and whose work with the defenders has been praised at Carrington.

Would you keep them all if he becomes permanent?🤔

Putting the backroom staff in the foreground during a mid-season training camp is not just something you do if you intend to send them on their way after seven games.

Add to that Adam Lawrence’s situation as the manager of the U21s, and it’s becoming clear that the stars are aligning for Carrick to get the job permanently.

If United’s actions and coverage in Ireland are any indication, Ineos have probably already made that decision too, and are using this camp as a soft-launch of sorts to build up to their decision.

Not many Man Utd fans will be complaining if that’s indeed the case.
