Chelsea want a Premier League experienced central defender this summer, and two names are coming up regularly.

The briefs that have come out in the last few weeks have seen Chelsea making it clear that they’re going to sign experienced, peak age Premier League players to complement their young stars.

That’s especially important in defence, and our writer Simon Phillips has two names he suggests have been discussed internally at Chelsea ahead of the summer.

First up is Murillo of Nottingham Forest. We hear his name every year, and so far nothing has come of it. Clearly the sporting directors are big fans of his, and this is probably the time to try and buy him given their struggles this season.

Also mentioned is Jan Paul van Hecke who plays for our old friends Brighton. Phillips says he “is a player Chelsea likes” and are “looking into for this summer.” His price tag would be pretty massive, so we’ll wait and see if there’s a push from him to get the move.

The most interesting note from Phillips is that van Hecke had training group “bust ups” with Joao Pedro in their shared time on the South Coast. We can’t imagine that would put Chelsea off if they really like the Dutchman,

Goalkeeper is another priority position to strengthen this summer, and it looks like Roma star Mile Svilar is a possible signing.
