Genuinely, how the hell did Cubarsi get a red card here? Guiliano was the one who even kicked Cubarsi, using his left leg to hit Cubas right and he just fell down and BOOM, red card. This wasn't even as bad compared to the handball when Musso passed the ball to the defender and he used his hand to control it. The ball WAS in play and VAR wasn't even involved? Iirc, a penalty was given against Aston Villa for this same reason. Wow, just wow UEFA.

  1. On pitch decision was correct, foul and yellow card, no dogso, cannot for the life of me understand how VAR runs this back and settles on a red card.

  2. The only reason this could be ruled a non red card is that he probably would not have it controlled anyway. I think this could have been a reasonable take as well. Yet the foul is a clear foul and last man at that is a red.

That being said, Koke should have been sent off 3 times in this game and the handball was a pen, mindblowing how this was not called.

So Cubarsi is not allowed to occupy the space around an attacking player? This = a red card? He literally doesn’t even touch him until Simeone lost control of the ball AND his flailing back leg made contact. It’s crazy to me how this is even debatable, but OK Reddit

Doesn’t even look like a foul. Should’ve been a yellow for diving .. coming from a Madrid fan but hey good for us I guess

This is a red and I accept this red. Alright.
But then why was the Raphinha foul in newscastle wasn’t a red? He was the last man and a clear goal opportunity.
I am ok with reds but inconsistency just makes me mad

    Dang it.

Pedri was pushed in their buildup, and otherwise could’ve controlled the ball.

The ball was at guilianos butt. Cubasi should have just let him control and regroup the defense.

guiliano was probably not foul baiting either. He just wanted to control the ball.

It was not a clear goal scoring chance to begin with. And here’s the mistake from the ref.

And then they scored after this.

Oh well. It was a string of bad lucks.

  7. Even though the movement was weird I still think it a totally valid red, unfortunately. I love the high line but unfortunately this is one of the potential risks of it. Unfortunate, we’ll come back stronger second leg, got nothing to lose

  8. So the ball was behind Simeone. If Cubarsi had not fouled him, it would have either hit his butt, gone opposite to the direction he is running forcing him away from the goal or he had to do a rainbow flick to get it under control. I don’t see how this was a clear and obvious scoring opportunity. I think the on field decision was correct

  9. VAR never gave this camera angle to the ref, only the opposite angle with a far away shot….

  10. Only a 2 goal deficit. Never give up. We outclass them by a mile. Just look at the first 43mins, or the entire game, outside of alvarez goal they were total trash. Give us a little luck next game and its over 💯

Is not that Pau should not have been sent off -he did- is the double standard with how many fouls Atlético committed and still ended with 11 players on the pitch.

Cubarsi is notorious for giving away pens/free kicks and receiving red cards at this point, at a young age.

The same as Araujo and sometimes Kounde, it sucks.

I don‘t even see a foul here, Simeone was forcing this contact from the beginning, and this is an absolute casual game contact. It didn’t even deserve to be paid attention to. Red card here is a pure insanity, imo.

  14. We should really look for these fouls ourselves.

For example, when Cancelo cut inside their defender slid in with his legs up and Cancelo jumped the challenge and shot on goal…He should have instead made contact with the slide tackle and it would have been an automatic penalty.

  15. That’s always gonna be a foul. There’s no point in arguing about since it’ll be called 99/100 and if the roles were reversed we would be yelling for a foul and red. This happens all the time in football where the player runs across the defender and the defender can’t slow down fast enough and clips them. Always a foul.

  16. Okay so a little question, when the ball is played behind the player, how is that considered an obvious goalscoring opportunity?

  17. belinibambini on

I still havent seen the clip leading up to this to confirm he was onside. Very well could have been onside but they didn’t show the replay ONCE. So annoying

  18. Excellent_Ad8304 on

Simeone had zero idea of the ball or wasn’t in any control of it or would have led to a goal chance. This wasn’t a red period

I thought seeing the replay durimg the match i thought he left is foot in to initiate contact but now i think hes trying to control the ball like olmo did at the weekend and get the ball in front of him and just completely misses it.

  20. Man I see him throwing his leg back to make the contact with Cubarsi not the other way around i dont see this as a foul. Am I the only one? Wtf

  21. PhotoModeHobby on

Doesn’t matter if it’s on purpose or not. He was running and got tripped. Straight red.

  22. Atlético players kept pressuring the ref after Cubarsí’s yellow until he checked VAR and gave a red. Barça players should do the same when decisions go against us

  23. Simeone was just smarter here from Cuba. We must accept it. It wasn’t an accident he placed lags like that. He knew Cuba will switch places with him and he used that opportunity. 2:0 on metropolitano isn’t impossible. It’s Atleti after all. They like choke themselves against us.
