Manchester United are keen to sign a new midfielder in the summer transfer window and could have golden chance to move for one of their long-term targets with some clever business

Manchester United could be involved in a summer deal that would see Joshua Zirkzee move to Atalanta in a swap deal for Ederson. The Dutchman has endured a miserable couple of seasons at Old Trafford.
Zirkzee, 24, has scored just nine goals in 69 appearances for the Red Devils and has started just four times this season. The former Bologna and Bayern Munich star has regularly been linked with a move away and according to reports in Italy, Atalanta have emerged as suitors for him.
As per TuttoAtalanta, the Serie A side are plotting a summer move, with the striker seen as an ideal addition to their frontline. They could potentially face competition from domestic rivals Roma and Como.
But Atalanta could move to the front of the queue given the Red Devils’ interest in midfielder Ederson. The Brazilian has long been linked with United and with just over a year remaining on his contract with the club, Atalanta could be open to cashing in on his signature in the summer.

He could be drafted in as a replacement for Casemiro, who is due to leave Old Trafford at the end of his contract. Manuel Ugarte has also been tipped to leave the club this summer.
United however could face competition should they move for Ederson. Atletico Madrid Sporting Director Mateu Alemany recently confirmed his side were also interested in a move. As quoted by Marca, he said: “One more on the list of good players we have.”
Speaking earlier this season, United boss Michael Carrick suggested that Zirkzee still had a role to play, potentially putting a swap deal on ice. He said: “Yeah, again I say it a lot but I think the whole squad is so, so important.”

“I understand that some players have played a little bit more than others, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be the case for the rest of the season. I thought Nous in particular coming in, he played ever so well. So I’m pleased for us and for him. Josh again coming off the bench, as he did at West Ham, and having an impact.
“I think it’s part of it. You need everyone. We’ve got so much talent within the squad to call upon when we need it. I’m really delighted with the whole squad, I have to say, yeah. The way they’ve stuck together, with the spirit and all making an impact in different ways is what we want.”
