Honestly kind of weird how little he’s talked about here. Hearing Byfield mentioned constantly yet Phillips is well ahead of him.

We’ve been hoarding young CBs like it’s our job. I think we all agree Luka is the future if we can hold onto him, but I wonder who ends up getting paired alongside him.

  3. he’s been captain of the club whilst 20 years old and on loan. Mark Robins isn’t daft; he knows this kid’s got something.

absolutely no reason not to give him a run next season. tired of farming young players out and replacing them with stopgaps that aren’t even that good.

  4. Van De Ven, Vuskovic, Danso, and Phillips would be an excellent selection of central defenders for next season, I’d even keep Davies for another year as an extra option.

We have done some incredible business over the last few years in regards to setting us up for the future.

To be honest, all this tells me is that there’s a real lack of stand out young talent in the Championship this season.

I’ve watched plenty of Phillips matches, from Plymouth to Stoke, with the latest a few weeks ago against Preston. Impressive physically, but from a footballing standpoint, miles off it. (as you are allowed to be in the Championship).

He’s a slightly worse Steven Caulker. In terms of Tottenham first team potential. Let’s not forget Caulker was an incredible young footballer who had excellent loans, and at Phillips age was on loan in the Premier League.

You can bookmark this, screenshot it, whatever you want to do. But Phillips will never make it here. He’d be exposed big time if he ever started games for us. Far too many weaknesses in his game for his age at this level. Next season will be another loan, unless we can get a nice profit for him which I assume we will.

Very curious how RDZ feels about him. Does he have the technical quality to play the press-baiting,1-2 touch stuff?
