Port Regis School, based in Motcombe near Shaftesbury, has been named one of the top three boarding prep schools in the UK in the Week Best of the Best Independent Schools Guide 2026.

The school founded in 1881 has been described as ‘One of the great preps schools’.

In the past three years, the school’s Year 8 leavers have achieved 93 scholarships to leading senior schools across the country.

Headmaster Titus Mills said: “What an absolute honour to have been recognised by The Week in the top 3 in the UK.

“Everyone who is part of our Port Regis community can feel rightly very proud.

“As a truly independent prep boarding school which also welcomes day pupils, what we offer children here is a very special childhood, encouraging every boy and girl from age 2 to 13 to learn values of Joy, Generosity, Courage, Creativity and Endeavour.

“We are able to give them the time and space to do this through the boarding school ethos, with a huge range of opportunities inside and outside the classroom.”

The school is set within 150 acres of Dorset countryside with daily bus routes across Dorset and Somerset.

The school said that boarding is at the heart of school life, with over 70 per cent of pupils boarding in some form from Year 3.
