While Pablo Felipe’s penalty miss has West Ham United supporters questioning the wisdom of a striker signing from Portugal, Primeira Liga leaders FC Porto are proving – with Terem Moffi – that there is value to be found in the winter window.
The Hammers famously courted Moffi intensively during an impressive spell at FC Lorient between 2020 and 2022.
A £20 million bid was snubbed before Nice snatched the Nigeria international from under David Moyes’ nose.
What advice would you give to profligate Pablo? ⛔
How can he save his West Ham career?
Since that big-money move to the Allianz Riviera, however, Terem Moffi has provided relatively few reasons for West Ham United to feel as if they missed out on the solution to their seemingly never-ending striker problem.
Well, until now maybe.
Former West Ham United target Terem Moffi is finding form at Porto
Moffi has scored only two goals since joining FC Porto on loan from Nice three months ago. But, speaking on talkSPORT, European football expert Andy Brassell has seen enough to suggest a revitalised, fully-fit Moffi will rediscover the sparkling form of his days at Lorient’s Stade du Moustoir.

Brassell was speaking after Moffi, who missed almost the entirety of the 2024/25 season with an ACL tear, provided an assist during Porto’s 2-2 draw with Famalicao on Saturday. Despite dropping points on home soil, Francesco Farioli’s side remain points clear of Sporting Lisbon.
Something Brassell puts down to an impressive winter window.
“If you look at the players that they brought in on a temporary basis,” Brassell begins, Porto also snapping up ex-Lens captain Seko Fofana.
“Terem Moffi who, of course, West Ham really wanted at one point and he chose to go to Nice. He’s back to his best after a big injury, or edging back to his best.”
The Hammers have been linked with numerous strikers already
Moffi still scored 24 goals at Nice, despite that long-time injury absence.
He remains a pale imitation of the striker who sparked fear in the hearts of Ligue 1 defences at Lorient while attracting a £20 million bid from West Ham but, with another impressive performance under his belt in Porto colours, Moffi is getting there, slowly but surely.
Santiago Castro has been called ‘Carlos Tevez 2.0’! 🇦🇷
How important is a NEW STRIKER this summer?
“For Terem, we have to see where he comes from and the difficulty he had in getting into shape from the start,” Farioli said of Moffi last week. “Now, he’s fine. He’s working to get in shape.”
The expectation is that West Ham may look to bring another striker to the London Stadium next summer. Callum Wilson is due to depart as a free-agent, while Pablo Felipe’s miserable start to life in England continued as he failed from the spot during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat by Leeds.
Bologna’s Santiago Castro has been linked, alongside Juventus’ Jonathan David and Armando Gonzalez of Chivas.
Moffi is potentially a name to keep half an eye on, with relegation-threatened Nice willing to sell their one-time record signing for just £7 million at the end of his temporary stint in Porto [RMC Sport].
