Firefighters tackled an ‘accidental’ fire on the roof of a McDonald’s in Leicester city centre. The incident took place on Bank Holiday Monday (April 6) where pictures at the scene show fire crews close to the fast food restaurant on Market Street.

The restaurant was reportedly closed during the incident which started just after 6.30pm, LeicestershireLive reports. However this has not yet been confirmed by McDonald’s who have been contacted for comment.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue said the fire is believed to have been ‘accidental’ and claimed someone attempted to extinguish the fire before emergency services arrived.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Fire crews were called at 6.36pm to an incident at McDonald’s on Market Place involving a fire on the roof. Prior to our arrival, a responsible person had attempted to extinguish the fire.

“Crews used a foam extinguisher to put out the fire and carried out checks for any remaining hotspots and potential fire spread. The incident was dealt with by 7.56pm and is believed to have been accidental.”
