RESIDENTS have shared their views on wanting to restore a green space in Bournemouth.
Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes has been working with the community on a vision for the future of Swanmore Gardens, following public engagement with his local survey.
Residents shared their views on the future of the much-loved green space and its historic pavilion, with four key themes showing that people wanted to restore the pavilion, protect the green space, support local sport and improve safety.
Residents expressed that they were keen to see the pavilion restored and transformed into a building for community use, including a café and facilities for groups.
There was unanimous backing for keeping the garden space open and accessible to all, alongside support for the tennis courts to remain, with some interest in facilities for padel or pickleball courts.
Additionally, residents addressed lighting and anti-social behaviour- which are said to be addressed if the site is brought back into use.
Tom Hayes MP said: “I love this space and want people to think big about what their much-loved pavilion could become.
“I’ll make the case for funding and ensure people’s voices are heard—just as we’ve done in securing investment for a step-free Pokesdown Station, £20 million for community-led regeneration, and bringing a sure start to Boscombe.”
He is set to host a meeting in the area on Friday, April 17 from 6pm to 7pm, inviting residents to shape proposals.
Spaces are limited and constituents and constituents seeking to attend should email tom.hayes.mp@parliament.uk for details about the event.
