    ON THIS DAY 2025:

Newcastle travelled to a Leicester City team in dismal form. Seven home losses in a row, and fifteen points from safety.

What could have been a potential banana peel proved to be a walkover.

In the second minute, great work from Livramento on the wing saw him whip the ball across goal for Murphy to tap it in at the back post.

Less than ten minutes later, Newcastle got their second. Schär won the ball in his own half, spotted their keeper was off his line, and tried an audacious shot from inside his own half, which cracked off the bar, and fell to the feet of a sprinting Murphy who just about managed to control it and put it past the keeper.

Once the second went in, Leicester fans and the team seemed to give up, and the rest of the game was played at a pedestrian pace.

Newcastle added a third in the first half as Joelinton shot was parried and finished by ex-Fox Barnes, who choose not to celebrate the goal.

Howe took off many key players to rest them for hosting Man United in their next game. The Champion’s League chase was looking very possible.
