  1. I think this is very harsh, has Salah declined? Yes but look at any wingers numbers this year,it’s not a wingers type season judging by how bad wingers have performed in general.

But,in terms of salahs levels he’s better than what he’s shown which is why he’s getting more of a spotlight shone on him.

I think it’s unfair not to take into account what that LFC side has had to deal with,it’s under stated how much jotas death would’ve affected them. Not only from a mentality point of view but also from a fitness point of view, slot tool the decision to give these players time off when we should’ve been well into a preseason set up. I think that’s shown how much sides are fitted than we are and we’ve been playing catch up ever since. Add to the the squad changes and the fact we’ve been left short of options too. New players bedding in and it’s just a cocktail of disasters for the whole season. When we played galatasaray at home it was the first time that 11 got on the pitch this season and it was arguably our best 11. We’ve 7 games in the league left and that’s the first time out best side has steeped on the pitch. That’s madness!

Salah is a legend here, even if he goes out with a wimper he’s been one of the best players the premier league has ever seen and he will probably show he still has those levels elsewhere.

Tbh idk if it is all decline. Liverpool r playing shite and as he was made the scapegoat, seems like he doesn’t care anymore. I think he wants to move on and prove he’s good enough. Maybe I’m wrong as he has been shocking at times during this season, but Liverpool playing ass has something to do with that

It’s so lazy to put it all down to decline. Nobody goes from greatest PL attacking output ever to has been in 12months. I actually think a lot of it is down to Trent leaving- his decline can be traced almost perfectly to when he announced he was joining Madrid and got dropped.

Turning 30 is no joke physically. Salah has been consistently amazing for ten years. For context heres a list of English players who didnt even reach the height of his worst season, yet dropped off, and still dont get any of the flack hes getting.

Deli alli, Ross Barkly, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, James Middison,

  5. There’s definitely a case for Salah’s drop off not being as severe had Liverpool not spent over £300m on attacking players requiring the whole system to be changed to fit.

The new set up highlights the worst parts of Salah’s game and has failed for pretty much every attacking player bar Ekitike this season.

I think the parting of ways is coming at the right time for both – though was inevitable from before Christmas when he bemoaned his situation under Slot.

Salah’s departure will also remove the fear of upsetting him again and allow Liverpool to put all their attacking focus around Isak, Ekitke and Wirtz. I wouldn’t be surprised if Salah’s replacement will be an unglamorous wing option more focussed on doing the defensive dirty work.

Any good coach knows how to plan ahead and utilise the best traits of a player instead of always treating them like pack dogs set to run on a whistle.

Slot is just bad at understanding the limitations of his players across the board so barring Szobo and maybe Hugo no one else has had a decent run.

Diaz was Slot’s first casualty, then Salah. Wirtz is the next.

I wouldn’t be surprised if even Gakpo starts scoring bangers under say Alonso.

Haven’t seen anyone else say it, so let’s just throw in that as well as the change in system, the players signed, the players sold, the age, etc etc etc I know that a close friend of mine dying in tragic circumstances and being reminded of it every game would take the edge off me too.

  9. Anybody claiming he hasn’t regressed needs to use the eye test alone. Pretty obvious how he’s lost a significant amount of his athleticism overnight. He’s just slow and ponderous now. Looks like a piano is stuck to his back.

Easy to work out one of the reasons how they’ve struggled this year when you consider they have a total passenger out wide. He doesn’t press anymore, doesn’t track back enough, he doesn’t have breakaway speed, his first touch has regressed significantly. Just shows he wasn’t quite as dynamic a player as others he’s compared with due to his lack of transformation over the years.

  10. To me, his decline started back in spring of 24/25 season. With Liverpool being far ahead of Arsenal and pretty much clinching the title and PSG games in UCL that saw Liverpool exit the tournament. If you look at that period, Mo was still scoring, but big bunch of his goals were coming from penalties (at least he was still a reliable penalty shooter back then). Take away those penalty goals though, and the picture of his decline becomes clearer. I was initially attributing drop in form to a new contract that he just signed with Liverpool, but looking back now, the physical form was also beginning to be a suspect.

  11. Man’s was playing like a machine for close to a decade. It think it’s fine for him to decline.

I think it’s more painful to watch what slot is doing. In football you have to be ruthless and if that is taking a decline star off the pitch because he’s not bringing anything to the game you have to do that. You can’t wait till he’s missed a pen and various chances before that.

His back was not only hurting for carrying the team to a league title last season, but the back is also broken. Sad to see his decline as a Liverpool fan.

Shock horror, footballer gets less prolific as he gets old. Who would have thought it!

  15. gelliant_gutfright on

Remember: Ronaldo managed 18 league goals and 24 in all competitions at the age of 36 for a dysfunctional United side in 2021-22. But apparently Salah is miles better because of his longevity.

  16. Natural-Joke3185 on

I am still baffled that how his 1 on 1 ability eroded in a short span something which is very rare.

  17. El-Terrible777 on

There is a clear decline, but I also believe he still could have been very effective but has suffered due to the team’s constantly changing and often ineffective tactics and a summer recruitment with obvious gaps.

I would not be surprised if Slot were fired and the new manager convinces Salah to stay if he hasn’t signed for someone else yet.

  18. Trent leaving was a big hit, however the whole team is devoid of any confidence or playing style… This lies at the feet of Slot. Last season was 60% Klopp 30% Mo carried us and 10% Slot actually having a bit of sense and not changing much… When he started to tinker and the issues with not rotating came into play… We were in free fall.

Mo will always be one our greatest and one of the very best to ever play in the league. Rivals may remember his last season, but deep down they will also remember when he tore them new ones.

  19. People going on about tactics and Slot. Salah had multiple great chances yesterday, and a pen, and didn’t take any. His shooting technique has declined. He can’t make simple passes. He can’t take a man on. He’s lost all pace. He doesn’t press. He might as well not be playing.

  20. Would be classy and nice if he bowed out with some humility. Changing of the guard. Help and support those coming through.

  21. whattheheck-sir on

Maybe Klopp knew how to use him! He wasn’t that great before he was bought. I remember it was a strange transfer at the time.

  22. People claimed last season was his best. Wasn’t even close. But this is the stat watcher era now and because more goals and assists were had it means better.

  23. It’s not as big a dip as it looks. I’m not saying there is none in saying it’s exaggerated by other issues.

We don’t have the squad we had last season, the signings are great but the squad balance is off and the depth isn’t as good. No doubt they will address it in the summer but that’s not soon enough for Salah.

Last season the team and squad were of a strength and set up in a way that could allow for a single player to not track back as hard and not run as far to cover when we lost the ball which allowed Salah the freedom to express himself almost exclusively as a forward. This season were exposed and require more from him, this is likely the reason he was dropped, not because of his ability but of the teams ability and their need for younger legs, even if those legs are not as prolific.

On top of that losing, Jota, Diaz and Nunez and the being replaced with mainly central players who have had injury issues also means there is less creative talent to receive the ball from him and to feed him the ball. It also means the play isn’t stretched as wide and defenders aren’t being pulled away to allow him the space he had last season.

Let’s not forget Trent too. Whatever your opinion of Trent as a defender, you can’t deny his sheer ability to find a player in space and that player for years has been Salah. We have lost one of the best passer of the ball in the league in recent years, second only to KDB imo, but even if you don’t rate him that highly, then he should be in everyone’s top five and a player that was pivotal to the way we played.

Salah has no doubt lost a bit of his edge but not as much as the numbers suggest. He is and will always be one of the best players we have, I’ve been watching this team for 40+ years and he gets in to my all time 11 and there’s an argument he gets in to the best premier league 11.

He’s a legend, he deserves to be treated as such and as much as I hate to see him go, I am happy that we know in advance so we can celebrate him and give him the send off he has earned.

The number of oppo fans in here cheering on his decline is testament to how much of a menace he’s been. 8th highest goal scorer at Old Trafford since 2020 – including Utd players – no wonder you’re all so happy to see the back of him 😂
