Not content with signing Lucas Paqueta from West Ham United in January, Brazilian giants Flamengo reportedly now have eyes on Valentin Castellanos.

Castellanos, of course, only arrived at West Ham United from Lazio in January but the forward has had a positive impact here in east London.

While the two-cap Argentine international has only scored three goals in 14 games, Castellanos has improved West Ham’s ability to press their opponents.

How will you remember Lucas Paqueta? 🤔

He, along with fellow new arrival Pablo Felipe, has given a lot of energy to a West Ham frontline who were previously lacking it. Frankly, they’ve looked like a better team without Paqueta

Still, his ability to score goals at this level is up for debate. Castellanos has struggled for West Ham at times, although seemingly not enough to put Flamengo off.

Flamengo consider signing Castellanos

According to Bola Vip, the Rio giants are considering the 27-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

Though Paqueta has struggled to convince at Flamengo, the club are thought to be open to the idea of signing Castellanos at the end of the British domestic season.

His name will reportedly be put to head coach Leonardo Jardim, who will make the final decision on the player.

It will be interesting to see what sort of decision West Ham make at the end of the season should a compelling offer emerge.

Hammers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo pushed for West Ham to sign Castellanos and while it would be too much to say he’s been totally vindicated, there have been some promising signs thus far.

Clearly, much will depend on what happens with the club’s Premier League survival bid.

Either way, Taty still has a huge role to play this season in the final eight games of the campaign.

Only after those are complete can a definitive judgement be made.
