Martin Smethers, 78, who has lived in Alderholt for 19 years, has raised concerns about a proposed closure of Alderholt Road (towards Somerley Estate) from April 6 to May 15.
He said residents fear the works will cause major disruption and lead to repeated periods of “isolation” for the village.
He said the impact would be significant, particularly as roadworks are already ongoing on nearby Kent Lane, which began on January 5 and have been delayed by Scottish and Southern Power Distribution.

Mr Martin said: “The likely consequences are severe delays towards Ringwood, Poole and Southampton, disruption to work, school and medical journeys, impact on local businesses, concern over emergency services response times, and repeated effective isolation of Alderholt in recent weeks.”
He added that residents have already had a difficult start to the year due to persistent roadworks and flooding.

He said: “We’ve suffered quite a bit this year one way or another.
“It was because of the flooding in January and February. Fordingbridge has had delayed works because of that, and that road is due to close next week.
“So the diversion route into Fordingbridge isn’t cleared up.
“It’s just a lack of planning, coordination and forethought.”
According to a digital road management platform, Causeway one network, additional works are also taking place in Fordingbridge, with roadworks at Victoria Gardens and Station Road running from March 30 to April 12.

Mr Martin said the cumulative impact of multiple projects would significantly slow traffic and raise safety concerns.
“It’s going to slow everything down.
“From an emergency point of view, ambulances trying to get through, it’s going to be a nightmare in terms of response times,” he said.
He also criticised plans to divert traffic via the A338, where other roadworks are already in place.
“They’ve got two sets of roadworks going on and they’re using that as a diversion route. They’re just piling people into the same spot,” he added.
Mr Martin said residents are extremely concerned that the cumulative effect of these simultaneous restrictions has not been properly considered.
Hampshire County Council has been approached for a comment.
