I’ll be totally honest here. This guy has pissed me off probably as much as I’ve cheered for him since he’s come here. As a player. As a person I’ve always thought he’s a pretty intelligent guy who is truly a good friend with his teammates and does the right thing.
With that being said I’m really glad to hear this measured take from him on his defensive contributions, and I do feel it’s slowly getting to him that he has to level up that part of his game if he’s to be a club legend level of success here. I think our success as a team is going to be made or broken by Kylian because he is the focal point of the team, and football these days is just as much about what the front line does off the ball as the mid and back line.
I want to give this team time, which is funny to say as he’s been here nearly two years. It takes a long time to adjust when you’re seemingly as instinctive as he is. Plus we’ve only really started hitting some sort of stability this year. Arbeloa feels like the right fit for this squad and he’s shown me enough that it’s really on how Mbappe works in this setup now.
