Leicester City’s fate is splitting opinions ahead of the final seven games, with the club one point from safety but having made some improvements under their new manager

Leicester City’s lack of a goalscoring striker could be pivotal in their bid to stay in the Championship.
With seven games to go, City are in the bottom three and staring at relegation to the third tier for just the second time in their history.
But with the gap to safety at just a single point and with five teams in the battle to avoid the final two relegation places, there’s set to be plenty of drama over the final month.
Ahead of the run-in, we asked City supporters for their thoughts on the battle at the bottom, and one topic that came up routinely was the form of the strikers.
City fans are concerned that with neither Jordan Ayew nor Patson Daka finding the net regularly, and with nobody else to turn to, the club don’t have the striker they need to escape the bottom three. Here’s what fans said:
Gary Raven: “If we continue to play either Daka or Ayew as our main striker we are going down. Play the young lad from Man City as a striker at least he knows how to score goals.”
Phil Hancock: “Keep Daka off penalties and we stand a chance. We needed a win at Watford. It’s going to be a challenge with no goalscorer in the team. Give the young lad Richards a shot.”
Vinod Patel: “The ‘Keep the Faith’ in me says yes (City will stay up). The lack of effective strikers says no.”
Scott Robinson: “Gary (Rowett) has fixed the defence, the midfield was never a massive issue but we have no one that we can trust up front. Without a goalscorer we’re as good as done.”
Andrew Wright: “City need to string a few wins together on the bounce but they have not been that sort of side all season. I don’t feel that they will garner enough points to stay up, with their inconsistency and lack of bite up front.”
However, there are City fans who feel optimistic of survival, pointing to Gary Rowett’s influence, the defensive improvements, and the fixture list. They said:
David Sheehan: “Looking at the run ins and our defensive improvements I’d say yes (City will stay up).”
Chris O’Donovan: “We could win three or four games but our inconsistency is the problem, so probably two wins and two draws, with goal difference almost worth an extra point. Obviously beating both Portsmouth and Blackburn would help considerably.”
Paul Lambert: “We play enough teams down bottom to avoid relegation. Whether we will win those games is another question!”
Tim Diamond: “I trust in Gary and think he’ll get the club a few wins towards the end.”
Kath McCubbin: “Maybe, but by default. Portsmouth appear to have lost the plot and I expect Oxford to go down, too. If we stay up, it will be another battle against relegation next year.”
Olly Beak: “It all depends upon the next two games. Win both and we ought to be okay.”
But with just one win from the last 13 matches, there are some supporters who cannot envisage the upturn in form City need to reach safety, with a lack of player pride and resilience pointed to. They said:
Ern Tench: “It’s not looking good. We would have to win at least three out of the next seven games to stand any chance. We’re doomed.”
John Parker: “We have the best goal difference if it comes to that but at the moment it’s 50/50. We must win all our home games. If not, then I think we may go down.”
Steve Hincks: “Relegated for me. Entering a season without a proper striker and a shambolic defence is a recipe for disaster. We’re down, and we know it.”
Andrew Cornish: “It looks like it (relegation). There’s not enough pride in the players.”
Kim Sherlock: “Relegated. Forgotten how to win games. Throw the cards in as soon as they get a single thing go against them.”
