The 23-year-old crossed the border in the opposite direction to Marcelino Nunez, and suffered his first East Anglian derby setback earlier this season at Portman Road.

But Philippe Clement’s soaring squad have taken more points than any Championship side in 2026, and will be ready to face a Town on April 11 embroiled in the fiasco around Nigel Farage’s recent tour.

“There’s a big number coming. Definitely a big number (of family and friends). But it’s nice that I feel like I’ve been just slowly chipping away at them or getting them all over to the right side,” he said. “So I feel like it’s not as big of a split as it used to.

“That game was disappointing on many levels. All of the players are aware that everybody at the club who work here were hit hard by the results. So we’ll be coming firing.

“We’ve got a lot of talent in the group and a lot of potential, and we’re always looking up. And since the managers come in, it’s always been game at a time. Can we hunt the teams above us and just go one team at a time, one position in the table at a time, and just keep climbing?

“We don’t want to get too carried away with what we could achieve. We’re just going game at a time. Can we win as many as possible and see what that looks like from the end of the season, and if that’s play-offs then I feel like we’d be in a great shape to go and attack.”

Gibbs underlined his versatility at right back in the last win at Charlton, but could have departed in January on loan had City not been hit hard by injuries.

“It was definitely spoken about between the club and my agent. I like to stay out of those discussions. I feel like that’s not for me to be involved in,” said the 23-year-old, speaking at the club’s half-term signing session on Tuesday afternoon at Jarrolds.

“I don’t need my head being taken all over the place. I’m just focused on being a Norwich City player until I’m told otherwise, my head’s always been trying to get myself in the squad and in the team, and injuries may have happened, and that’s obviously led to me being able to get that opportunity.

“Hopefully the manager has liked what he is seeing and I can be a part of the squad until the end of the season.”
