Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella has admitted he would find it difficult to turn down a return to Barcelona if given the opportunity.
The Spaniard is a product of the La Masia academy and was once considered a talent for the first team.
With Jordi Alba as the first choice at the time, Cucurella decided to leave to develop his career.
After a loan spell at Eibar, he moved to Getafe, where he impressed, before Brighton & Hove Albion bought him.
In 2022, he made his fourth transfer in five years, signing for Chelsea for €65 million.
Since joining the Spanish national team under Luis de la Fuente, he has become a regular starter for “La Roja”.
Speaking ahead of Spain’s match against Egypt, Cucurella told Marca that he would find it difficult to turn down a return to his boyhood club.
“It would be hard to turn it down. It’s not just about me. I have to think about my family too. If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see what decision is made.”
Previously, he had admitted that he is considering a return to La Liga in the future.
“I always think about going back. I’m very happy there, and so is my family. I’ll leave it for a few years later…”
He also expressed his happiness at returning to Catalonia for the friendly match to be played at the RCDE Stadium:
“Very happy. I’ve had a lot of requests for tickets. We’re going to play in a great stadium and the atmosphere is great.”
Although it has been reported that Barcelona could listen to offers for Alejandro Balde this summer, Cucurella is not on the Catalan club’s list of alternatives.
With a contract until 2028 at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea could consider offering him a new deal, but at the moment he seems beyond Barcelona’s financial means, especially since the left-back position is not a priority./Express newspaper/
