After just 44 days in charge at Tottenham Hotspur, Igor Tudor has left the club in dire straits with relegation looming despite just last week playing Champions League football. The Premier League club have struggled domestically this season with injuries contributing to the situation but with seven games left and just a point above the relegation zone, they will need a quick fix.
With FA Cup action this weekend, the board has some breathing space to hire a new manager but will still need to act fast to get the successor’s style of play in quickly before they travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland on April 12 when the Premier League action returns.
Big names continue to be linked to the relegation-threatened club and former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi finds himself as the odds-on favourite with the bookies as the free agent seeks a new job. De Zerbi, 46, has been linked to the Tottenham job before Tudor’s appointment and, according to reports, is interested with a return to the Premier League.
Betfred’s Robert Ford said: “Former Brighton and Marseille boss Robert De Zerbi has been backed into odds-on favourite to be the manager of Tottenham Hotspur next season.
“The Italian comes into his new price of 4/6 from even money and is the clear favourite ahead of former Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche and ex-market leader, and former Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino at 8/1.
“Former Juventus manager Thiago Motta had his price halved yesterday into 8s from 16/1, but has since been pushed out to 12s and is now an outsider for the role.”
The bar is low after Tudor’s exit having managed just one win in the seven matches he was at the helm at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
