    ON THIS DAY 2025:

The day that many Newcastle United fans thought they would never see in their lifetime. A fortnight after Newcastle United triumphed over league leaders Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley, Newcastle United had organised a trophy bus parade and event at the Town Moor.

The first event of its kind since 1969 when Newcastle won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in Budapest. The first domestic trophy parade since the FA Cup win in 1955.

Two sets of black and white buses departed from St James’ Park to the Town Moor and were greeted by hundreds of thousands of Geordies filling the streets as the greatest party of several Geordie generations began.

Local TV legends Ant & Dec hosted a broadcast atop the bus as scenes like many had never seen before unfolded.

Wor Flags unfurled an enormous banner of Eddie Howe down the side of the Sandman Signature hotel building, as a sea of black and white faithful filled the streets, climbed on to bus stops, up trees, up on top car parks.

The flares, the flags, the songs, the cheering, the noise, it was everything you always dreamed Newcastle United doing a trophy bus parade could be.

I was personally standing at Haymarket as the buses came past, with my parents, who took me to my first game nearly thirty years prior. Also, shout to the random lad who gave me a bottle of rosé he bought at Tesco as they were out of cans.

At the Town Moor, Lindsey Hipgrave and Pete Graves hosted a live event featuring local live music, and talks from local legends like Bon Moncur and Alan Shearer. I even managed to find my best mate, his Mam, and his bairn in the crowd.

Later in the evening, the players, the Manager, and staff were brought on stage the lift the trophy. Songs were sang, stories from the day were told in front a endless black and white horizon of fans.

Onstage, Ant & Dec asked captain Bruno Guimarães, what he said in the dressing room to the lads before the game. He said, “he go to the pitch as players, and we leave as fucking legends.”

Sela then put on a light droneshow before the Town Moor emptied and we all drank the town dry.

“Don’t you know, pump it up, Newcastle won the Cup.”

Tell me about your stories about this amazing day.
