Tractor Girls fell to a 2-1 defeat after a 95th-minute controversial winner.

Boswell said: “It’s a disappointing one. It’s quite hard considering I think it’s probably our best performance of the season.

“I think the girls were excellent today, from start to finish.

“Especially in the second half, we dominated. Territory wise, we were in their half for the majority of the time. I don’t think Nat (Negri) had to make a save.

“We had really good chances, but it was disappointing for the game to end like that because I don’t think it was deserved.”

Town went behind in the third minute, but equalised in the 28th through Lucy Ashworth-Clifford with her second of the season.

Boswell continued: “It’s great work from Pesk (Sophie Peskett) to be selfless and find Lucy, similar to the one the other week and she just had to tap it in.

“It was a great team goal.”

The Town skipper missed last season’s game at Portman Road due to injury, but she said that being out there was a “special moment”.

She said: “I think I said at the time last year that when I got injured, it was one of the first things going through my head was that I was going to miss Portman Road.

“So this year, to have the opportunity to walk the girls out in such an amazing stadium that I have been going to for so many years, it’s a special moment.”

Town relegation rivals Portsmouth, also lost this afternoon to Sheffield United. The Tractor Girls remain out of the relegation zone after a brilliant run at the start of the year, where they went five years unbeaten.

Boswell continued: “I think it’s all been really positive. I think we’ve all learned a lot really quickly.

“We’ve all adapted really well to how David Wright likes to work and I think that’s shown through our performances and results.

“We went five games unbeaten against really tough teams. The last couple of weeks have been disappointing because we’ve been in games.

“Today for example, we were the better team so it’s not a step backwards, it’s just trying to get those results back and not letting any opposition have easy goals like our first one was because I think that was too soft from us.

“It’s all been really positive though.”

The officials played a big part in the game, with major decisions going against Town at both the start and end of the game.

Boswell said: “Some of the decisions I don’t think were good enough.

“Inside the opening few seconds there was a clear red card.

“Our player is going for the ball and she is taken down and is the last defender. I know it’s the first 10 seconds of the game but it’s a massive call and you go by the rules of the game, no matter what minute it is.

“I wasn’t happy with that, and I basically said that the referee owed us one and it went against us.

“It’s one of those things, you do expect better from the refs in this division, but sometimes things just don’t go your way.

“For me the winner is offside.

“I know it’s difficult in those situations with the referee and lino to be able to see and get a clear view, but it’s disappointing that in this league, you expect better.

“If that decision was for us though, we’d have no complaints so it’s a difficult one to take, but it’s one of those things.”

Boswell was put forward the question regarding the noise around Ipswich Town this past week, following a controversial visit from Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage.

She said: “For us, it’s very separate.

“We keep our group to ourselves, we work hard, go to training every day and we focus on such a big occasion that we knew we had coming up.

“All minds were on that and we were really dialled into training this week.

“We executed our game plan that we’ve been working on all week; it’s just the way football goes when a result is taken away in the last minute.”
