Ipswich Town are now set to complete an in-person scouting mission on a 16-goal target this weekend, as they look to get ahead of their Championship rivals.
Ipswich to make in-person checks on 16-goal star
It hasn’t been a straightforward season for the Tractor Boys and they’ll be keen to let the football do the talking after the international break, but their fate is still in their own hands.
With eight games left to play in the Championship, Kieran McKenna‘s side sit just two points behind second-place Middlesbrough with one game in hand. And given that Boro square off against fellow promotion contenders Millwall when the action returns, there’s every chance that Ipswich take full control.

Out of those remaining games, Portsmouth away and then Middlesbrough in the space of five days could decide Ipswich’s season. If nothing changes between now and then, two wins from two will leave McKenna’s side four points ahead in the automatic promotion spot with four games left to play.
Promotion to the Premier League would certainly do wonders for their transfer ambitions, too. Young Tottenham Hotspur forward Will Lankshear, who has impressed on loan at Oxford United this season, is already threatening to steal the headlines on that front.

If Tottenham were to get relegated in the same season that Ipswich earned promotion, then a move to Portman Road for the youngster would become even more attractive.
He’s not the only one on their shortlist, however. According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Ipswich officials are set to make in-person checks on Joe Taylor this weekend.
In-form Taylor is good enough for Ipswich step
The Wigan Athletic man, on loan from Huddersfield Town, is set to play his part in the Latics’ game against Reading on Saturday afternoon with Ipswich and others watching on.

The Championship trio have set their sights on him.
The Tractor Boys will be hoping to see the 23-year-old continue his good form after netting eight goals in his last 10 League One games. To say that the forward’s loan move to Wigan has been a success would be quite the understatement.
Some may believe that Wigan’s gain has been Huddersfield’s loss but even when Taylor returns at the end of the season, the Yorkshire club reportedly have no place for the forward in their side – opening the exit door.
Taylor, with 16 goals this season, certainly won’t mind if it means a place in the Premier League, though. Having been described as “brilliant” by Wigan boss Gary Caldwell last month, the forward is doing more than enough to earn the chance to step up from League One this summer.
